Seek Clod direction

After reading the faqs and directory I'm pretty sure I know what type of chassis I want but I would like some advice about getting there.

I want to build a race/bash Clod.

Here are the options I think I have:

1) Buy a new old stock super Clod. Use axles and other odd parts. Buy new chassis and upgrade parts.

2) Buy used axles off eBay. Buy chassis and other upgrade parts.

3) Wait for a pre owned truck to popup on eBay closest to the config I want and buy that.

I know the approximate costs of each. But need help knowing if there are pitfalls that I don't see in any of them that will cause me to end up spending extra money.

Also if there are other options I didn't mention I'd like to hear about them.

I forgot to mention I am interested in the clodzilla IV chassis. I know there are other better race proven chassis but I also want to like how it looks. It seems the "best" chassis all have a big box design displaying large side plates. I have a difficult time with this look. But I'm open to ideas if you'd like to share along with any direction.

You might want to private message CPE MT about all this. Being a crawler site, you might not get the info you want. But Brett (I think it is) at CPE is on here, he was a vendor, and seems packed full of information about Clods.

I bought some used axles for $50 and I'm building up from there. I want to build most of it myself so that's why I'm going this route.

Thanks for the insight! I will contact Brett.

Is $50 a great deal? I was looking at paying $139 for a pair off eBay, mostly stock.

$50 is pretty good, you should look in the for sale section on here for them, sometimes they pop up with extras on them for cheap.

Re: Seek Clod direction

Ho, thanks! I didn't even see that forum on FH. Usually just browse through the rc classifieds. I see a few soliciting type posts in there. Would anyone get mad if I asked if anyone had axles, rollers, or completes for sale?

Also realizing (DOH) that most/all of the clod info on RCC (again doh) is crawler related, are there any other sites like clodtalk out there where I can keep up with racing and/or get parts?

Make sure you get some adjustable motor mounts with the axles to be able to adjust the gear ratios.
