| Oh Clod, why can't you steer?
I know, if you have a Clod you're going to have steering issues. But here we go anyway: I have a servo mount on the axle, and 2 inch spacers on the wheels (I know its big but its bad a@@), locked diff and rear steer locked out. I know im not doing myself any favors with this set up. So what im looking for is a servo mount that puts the servo infront of the gearbox, dead center. I have limited fabrication resources so making my own is difficult. Does anyone know of site that still sells one? All the sites I find list them but are discontinued. Or does anyone have blueprints on how to make one? Thanks all |

Did you modify the knuckles to allow for more steering? I've never had any issues with mounting the servo on the axle brace. Plus, when you mount it in front of the gearbox, its a lot more likely to get damaged.....

I trimmed the stops off to get the maximum swing. The mount I have is at the same angle as the brace. Would a mount that's flat be better?

It's just a matter of which mount will work best for what setup you have.

post some pics if you can. then we can see your steering and give better feedback. there are lay flat servo mounts, verticle servo mounts, brace mounts etc.....

Servo mounts, check esp chassis, they still have them listed. I have dealt with them since 88 when I bought my 1st clod from him, and 4 chassis' since.

If I'm reading that right, you have front and rear locked diffs, rear steer lockout, and wheel wideners? I don't think there is much you can do besides cut the stops of the knuckles and get the highest torque servo possible. | |

I agree with everyone else, with that setup your running, your gonna be limited on steering no matter wat you do...

can you post some pics? I may have what you need but not sure of the application. I just sold my last center, front of axle servo mount that was a copy of the TTR ones but I coud always make another

Sounds good. I'll try to post some pics today. I added some fwd toe-in and it seemed to (oddly) help.

[IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] Here's my current setup. Don't mind the sloppy wires I'm not 100% done. But that didn't stop me from taking it out today |

Nice rig! It is wide!!! looks good tho. Does the lower steering link hit the gearcase any at full steering lock? If it does, i would put some bends in it at the ends. That will fix that. As for the servo and tie rod.... I would flip your servo and put a shorter tie rod onto the other knuckle. That way you only have 1 long steering link to possibly flex. Toe out always helps turn in. If your front diff is locked, that will hurt steering. How wide it is, that hurts steering. If it has a really long wheelbase, that hurts steering. Honestly, if it was my rig, I would make sure that the front has as much steering as possible and then add rear steer. Install a y-harness and you can keep your current radio. Remember, if your rear has the same throw as the front.... Your turning radius will be cut in half.... I hope any of this helps. |
