Another 2.2 clod for me! The Rock Monkey

Well, got another comp clod. This one is a TVP design using an experimental material called thermoplastic. Basically, it's 2mm delrin sandwiched between .5mm aluminum, making it a total thickness of 3mm. It's lighter than aluminum and cheaper than steel. So far, it's proven to be strong enough to be used as a chassis material. And for a skidplate, I used 1/4" delrin. After a couple trails, it was clear that I had a machine that could go where none of my other designs could go before (neither could the TLT and X-factor that another guy was driving, so he started calling mine the rock monkey).

Here's some pics from the proving grounds, Vasquez Rocks:

I was actually pretty amazed at how well the thermoplastic held up. As you can see from the body, I wasn't going easy on it either:

The specs:

WB: 12.5"
Track width: 12"
Center ground clearance: 4"
Motors: integy 55t w/ 9t pinions on 8 cells
Tires: M2K's mounted on narrowed Revolver wheels (rear wide offset, front narrow), 4oz bb's in each front, 2oz bb's in each rear
TTR CVD's in front, stock rear
Steering: Towerpro servo, BTA linkage

Naked pictures!

Looks like it gets used good.....:) Nice job.

I like your set up also. Nice monkey, just make sure it stays off your back

To me it looks like he plays with his monkey to much!

How's that BTA setup workin for you? Looks Good."thumbsup"

Hope to see you at the next SoCal Comp.8)

What's a motor capacitor?

Looks good, I used to run a 3mm Delrin chassis (the plastic fantastic) w/o issue, so the thermoplastic should do just fine.

ILoveRCRockCrawlin 12-23-2006 12:06 PM

Looks good! "thumbsup".

Where did you get the Thermoplastic?

camel_rc 12-23-2006 11:25 PM

Thanks guys. Those caps will be moved to the top of the motor before the next comp. I'm really liking the BTA setup I have with this one, very smooth. In previous clods, I've had some issues with binding, but I finally got it figured out.

As far as the thermoplastic goes, I'll never tell!

Hey Camel RC.
I haven't seen you there I Go like out to vasquez at least 2-3 times a week.
We always go out there me and my buddy larry.

We should get together and crawl.

I think I saw you at Hobby People, or it could have been Larry, who's the one with the lifted '71 burban?

I'd love to have some sort of mini GTG there. When will you be going next?
