Default Servo Torque

What's the concensus on getting the most torque out of your steering servo?

I mounted a Hitec 645 (kimbrough saver), 109 oz on the left axle brace using a peice of angle aluminum for a bracket.

The steering sucks. It has a huge turning radius and doesn't seem to have much power to turn the big stock tires. I did notice quite a bit of flex in the bracket.
I wat to cure this issue before I get another serve for the rear.

You need WAY more than 109 oz's. of torque. Try a servo w/ 200 oz's. of torque.

Thanks for the reply

I see other people using the same servo HS-645MG (133oz at 6v). Does anyone else use it with good results? If so what type of mount?

Another question I have is about my ESC power. I'm powering the reciever from a Super Duty ESC. I'm not using the BEC but yet it powers the reciever through the throttle channel. Is that ok/normal? If ok, then is it 4.8v or 6v? Novak doesn't specify in the manual, it just talks about the BEC.

Drop the dough on a Good Servo set up. You don't have crap unless you and steer the rig. Save up the money and buy a good servo.

most use the hitec hs 645mg or some use the 1/4 scale ones which are high torque and cheap but big

run2jeepn I don't have a problem spending money on the good stuff, I just want to make sure I'm not doing something wrong before I spend the money and go through the trouble.

It's nice to know what others are using, nobody in my neck of the woods does this kind of custom hobby. Thanks for the reply andrewmp6. You say most use the 645, where do they typically mount it?

And if it's not big enough for the front can it be used for the rear steering?

Try the JR9000T w/ 300+ oz's. for around $115.00.

Or the Tower Pro MG995 w/ 208 oz's. under $20.00 on the bay and a great servo!

Or the Hitec 5955TG can handle 6 cells for 471oz torque. Or 5 cells for 333oz..$115 from Towerhobbies or thecrawlerstoer or RCP.

I have 6 of the Tower Pro MG995 servos and they work great!! You can beat them for the price. The only draw back is the wait... If you order some I would get 3 or 4 because the shipping cost is the same for 1 as it is for 4...

Agreed... the 645 is ok for when you start out, but for difficult climbing, or comps they just don't stack up. I've stripped out the gears too many times, and the motor gets weak over time and are known to fry. I've switched over to a digital JR servo (I can't remember the model # off hand), and it's been great.

I ran two off a MOPED ESC, so a TR2 will have no issues at all!

What servo horn is needed on the MG995's?

I've been trying to do a search and saw Futaba horns work but, I just want to be sure.

Thanks.

I bought these ones on Ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...7152&rd=1&rd=1

It says 208oz. @ 6V where the 645MG is rated at 133oz. @ 6V

HS-645MG on Tower for 39.99 each + shipping
2 MG995 on Ebay for $40.49 shipped. (That's for 2!)
I figued I'd give them a try, it's only $40 bucks.
