Default SUPER CLEARANCE STEERING, NO FABBING REQUIRED :D

I invented the simplest and highest clearance steering system ever, period. (maybe I didnt invent it, but I've never seen it before...)

On the right side (facing front) you know the axle brace that goes across? And the holes in it? Mount two standard tamiya posts in those, they are too narrow to have it sit right across, but if you raise one side up a bit it bolts right on. I will have pics later. My steering works WAY better than before (no servo flexing away from the mounts or anything) Turns a MINUTE amount better left than right, hardly noticable (unlike all my other steering systems! uses about a 1" long drag link

Again, pics later....

PS-I couldn't hit it if I tried... and believe me i did!!

Man, this thing looks SO much cooler and works SO much better since I lowered it and lengthened the wheelbase a lil bit.

Very simple. That spacer could be a bit less tall, but thats what I had. In the future, it may create a lot of leverage on the knuckle and break... If it will happen, you guys know I'll be the one to figure it out!!

But whats cool is since thats kind of tall, when a LOT of force is applied it acts like a very firm servo saver.

Best of all... FREEEEEEEEEEEEEE I just took a 6-32 bolt I had, cut off the top, used it for the drag link, took two standard servo posts, bolted them in, and bolted the servo to that Enjoy guys!! As you can see its VERY MUCH out of the way. still haven't hit it 4 packs later.

3 sets of packs last night on some stupid "WATCH THIS" wheeling with a buddy, no steering carnage. I think the knuckle plastic is just soft enough that it can take the slight bit of bending. I am also pretty sure it won't last forever like this, but to help it im going to lower the spacer some.

Well I don't know about invented but I ran a very similar setup on an early MudCow prototype (see attached pic)

Worked OK but limits what you can do with your links and shock mounts on top of the steel braces.

You are also adding a lot of twsisting leverage to the plastic steering arm on the hub which will translate to sloppier steering and possibly break the steering arm if you have a tumble.

I suggest that you swap your knuckles L to R so that the arms are up higher than the axle centreline then run the tie rod (longer link) above the steering arms and this will give you even more clearance under the tie rod. Will also reduce the leverage on the RH steering arm at the same time.

Cheers, JK

Like I said, I wasn't sure if I inveted it but I hadn't seen it before, so far no carnage, im sure its in the works though....

I'll try swapping the knuckles, thanks for the tip JK!

That looks a lot like the stock TLT rear steering set-up! On that truck I found that the vertical post flexed so much that the steering was lame. Obviously yours is stiffer if it works with Clod wheels!

Well done!

I've had my servo mounted like that for almost a year now. It's working great. I don't use a huge spacer like your's, Dave. My knuckles are flipped.
Now I'm going to put my tie rod above the arm like MudCow said. Never thought of that. :P

Yeah, I need to steal my friend's digi cam. It will be a couple of days probably.

I'm using Traxxas ballends. To stack the tie-rod and draglink (dunno, the other steering rod) I put a small spacer between them and ran a single screw through it all. I don't know how you would accomplish that with the stock ballends.
