My First Clod Build

Yup, I’ve never owned a Clod before, despite drooling over them as a child of the 80’s and then having spent 15 years working for a HTU, when I could have got one with an employee discount. It’ll be 4 years since that job ended next month and with my getting O/T while working from home with my current job, I decided I needed to get one, which ended up being the Black Edition I posted in the purchases thread. Well, now that the bearings are in and I had the chance to pick up better Phillips driver bits for my cordless driver, I got started on it today!

I started with the gearboxes and suspension to start since to me, those were the hard parts other than getting a chance to paint the body (went with a couple automotive paints that were put in rattle cans for me8)

I just set up shop in a recliner in the living room and watched car shows and a show about abandoned places mysteries show.

After looking to see how the axle tubes were attached, I will be doing the 6/32 cap head upgrade or something similar with 3.5mm hardware.

By midnight CST, I had 2 complete bearing equipped gearboxes with shocks assembled and installed as well as the servo linkages

Next up will be the chassis then the body last.....since it may rain here all damned week and that I can’t do indoors:evil:

Got the chassis built, the axles attached, then the rolling stock assembled and mounted tonight after dinner!

I also took a pic of it with my SCX24 and 4-Tec 2.0 for size comparison purposes!

Started the body prep tonight, should be ready for primer, then hopefully paint, this weekend!

Did a bit more beyond this too, just never took the pics tonight. Got everything for the paint but the clear and I’m planning on using spray bed liner In the bed too, so I’m not as worried about those sink marks in the rollbar stand offs.

Re: My First Clod Build

Well, the Clod and Lunchbox are both now driveable, ordered the AMPro tail light lense pieces for the Clod and side marker, parking light and tail light lense kit for the Lunchbox, so I’m holding off on much more bodywork until those arrive.

Re: My First Clod Build

After a few months of procrastination, I got to tinkering with the Clod again and fixed a couple issues I was having with the steering, which was mainly me putting the Hudy servo on without centering it first:roll:

That’s all factory, only aftermarket parts on it are Fast Eddy’s bearing and a Hudy servo arm for the Spektrum servo I’ve got in it"thumbsup"

Got the lid and my Lunchbox ready for primer, just need a cleanup first. I also imaged to lose the AMPro lens kit for the van, So if I can’t find that, I may need to order a second one...........
