the ones I saw on ebay where the fully machined pieces not the cast, personally I dont like cast pieces as they will tent to break A LOT easier then billet or fully machined pieces

If your talking about the big hole in the side of the rear portion of the gearcase? That's where you put the motor...and both axles have that...you can't mount the motor without it.

well first I am a machinist so it is my job to know the different properties of materials, just my boss would not appreciate me using his time and money to write programs and then machine the pieces.

Second they switch because stock arms break with very little force, RPM's arms are made with fibers so they have a little more flex before they break. If you were to use aluminum you will be adding unwanted weight to a racing rig, and if you do hit the wall with aluminum arms, say good bye to your bulk heads and probably diffs and you could possibly bend the arms...

I am talking about the big open space behind the brass hex hub, with out the stock cover that will get filled with dirt and mud and such...

Ok, I give up...in the end you'll buy what ya want...I was just tryin to give ya some more info to make an educated decision. I'm not going to go around pimping what I do for a living to prove anything...so I digress. Good luck on what ever you decide on

That's just the stock plastic steering knuckle your seeing. If you put aluminum versions in place of those, you won't have the "hole"

Here is how it looks with the aluminum one's...see how there's no big void now:

Right now I am liking the raptor axle because it is cheap and comes with all of this:
  • Hardened steel gears
  • Heavy duty stainless steel drive/axle shafts
  • Huge heavy duty aluminum axle tubes
  • Use 32 Pitch pinion gears (8 to 20 Tooth)
  • Monster size clear dust cover for fine tuning gear mesh

Wait a bit longer and see if you like the Raptor 2 better, it'll allow you to go with BTA steering so you can reduce your clearance that much more (and scratch up those beautiful new Aluminum axles!). Plus, from what I have read, they may be letting you use CVDs in them, so you could strengthen them more by getting the Thundertech CVDs. That would at least leave you a little room to upgrade later if you need to.

The things that keep me from getting Raptors are:
no BTA steering
no CVD
only 30:1 gearing will not work with many brushless motors ie 3013
No good servo mounts
a little wide
No mount for ecu on axle

They are sweet but...maybe the will address all these things with the Raptor2, we will see.

I also don't see if the plastic axle tubes are reinforced at the knuckle area why go metal.

I dont really like the raptor 2's, I am not sure how they would mount on my gecko 2. They dont have a brushless system for 2 motor rigs yet so I am not concerned about that, and my current rig is already setup with front axle steering with aluminum servo guards...

so they should be able to pop right in...

I am running a mamba 25 Revolver set up now....two esc and two motors. and I know people running two mamba maxes with 3013's. So not sure what you mean by that but whatever you want. All that stuff in the front of the axle really cuts down on approach angle too.
