Default My first crawler (PICS)

Hi guys. I signed up to this forum over 2 years ago and never got around to building my crawler. That is until I recently landed a RTR Clod for $25.00. Now I have no excuse!

I purchased the New Era Rhino chassis and added:
-Savage shocks (I might not use these)
-Maximizer 3.2 beadlocks
-Losi Claws
-12-14mm adapters -w- 1" offset
-full ball bearings
-aluminum diff lockers
-New Era servo relocate
-Bluebird steering servo
-EVX (might not use this either)

I still need to choose motors and pinions and I'm on my way.

Please feel free to offer suggestions.

Lose the Savage shocks and find a set of Maxx sized (4 inch) shocks.

Looks good other wise.

LOL yup.....$25.00. The guy didn't know what he had. It even had Trinity matched madness motors. (Those must be old because i can't seem to find any info on them.)

My EVX is still sealed in the box. I'm debating on returning it and buying a Rebel 2. There are some good reviews on this forum on the Tekin.

Any thoughts? I found the EVX mod post so I'm aware of what needs to be done for a single batt.

Thanks!!

I have an evx on mine and i like it for the time being (until it frys). I use a hump pack on mine for steering though. I have two robot servos on mine, so i needed the hump pack.

I gave my local hobby shop a call today. He's going to take the EVX back for store credit and I ordered a Rebel 2 along with 2 Integy 55 turn motors.

I also ordered 2 8t pinions and the adjustable motor mounts. I should be good to roll this week.

Now I just need to find a bunch of guys in NH to go play.

I'm from way North NH originally. Lancaster...

With you being in Sandown, you should be able to hook up with the southern folks and the Massholes too

LOL. My boss has a weekend home in Lancaster. He drives 2.5 hours every Friday and stays for the weekend. He's nutz.

UPDATE:
1. Savage skocks are gone and Hot Body aluminum shocks are on.
2. EVX is gone and Rebel 2 is in.
3. Integy 55T motors are in with 8T pinions.

What does everybody run for shock oil? I searched the forum and found nothing???

Also, is their any advantage to flipping the front axle 180 deg so both of the motors have the same rotation? I've seen a few people do this.

Shock oil in my truck is whatever's left over ater dumpin' out the oil that was in them when I got them... Had them near a year and haven't put a drop in them...

They're quite fast acting that way... Yea I get a fair bit of squat when I start and stop but, I have fast acting suspnesion... I rarely hang a wheel up in the air now...

Some say to use oil, some say don't... I'm on the don't bandwagon currently... But my next Clod will most likely have oil 'cos that one's gettin' some nice silver Integy piggybacks on it I picked up last week...

You don't wanna flip the front axle, that just puts the motor right out front to hit and snag on anything you come accross. Some people have run there rear axle flipped, but in your case it is easier to turn the motor timing 180* out so it runs the same as the front.

Thanks man!

I had the maiden voyage last night. All I have to say is you guys make it look easy in the videos I've seen. This takes some skill!!

I pulled off a couple of nice verticle climbs up on to a large tree stump and I managed to scale a rock wall a few times. This thing is a blast!

My first complaints are:
1. Too top heavy. The articulation is smooth but it's on it's roof way too much. I might be able to lower the batt location and stretch the shocks forward a little to lower the stance.

2. The New Era steering has to go. It loosened up twice and only likes to turn left. It also sits too low so it scraped over every rock.

Other than that I'm hooked!!!!!

For the battery location, ive a lot of people mount them slung around the front of the truck, I guess you get more forward traction and lower CG.

Ya I stretched it out today. I also found a couple of other problems that I missed while assembling it. It's already made a world of difference.

The body doesn't fit anymore now that it sits lower. The bumpers hit the top links and the sides hit the wheels. I may look for another crawler style body.
