Default side grabber thingys

i like 'em how bout you guys?

i made the tires yesterday by cutting my clod tires and narrowing them by about 1 1/2 inchs.

then today i added the dohickys you see on the side.

the glue is holding on great and the tire will rip before the glue seperates.

they work good and it was worth glueing my hand to the tire... twice

so tell me what you guys think

Nice work on the narrowing. There are a lot of guys playing around with narrowing and side biters etc over here at the moment.

My only comment on your side biters is that they could be a little longer up the sidewall to make them more effective.

Check out the pics of the trucks at our last comp (Sun 19 Jun) to see some of the great ideas...

Hey thanks! 8O

ya i was going to get a mtn bike tire and use its tread.
but i was to impatient and pluse this was a test set of tires. so i used the pieces that were coming out of my clippers :o

i had no plans before i started glueing so it was shoot first ask questions later.

this was my donor for the side walls. the section that came out of the tire.

i was surprised at how fast i did all four tires. and they came out ok too. :P

you guys have some of the most inovative ideas over seas.

the one that got me hooked on to the whole cut and shut idea was... arghhh i cant think of his name but he had the rig with the cut an shut claw dawgs.

hey jk, i couldn't find those pin spike tires on imexs' website, are they discontinued? how did you like the bft tires? i see in the 2004 - Round 3 – Cut Rock Road 22 May 04 event, you tried allot of different tires out. what are the pros and cons of the different tires you tried out? thanks for the info.

I don't know if they are discontinued or not. You could also try the Maxx Mulchers by Proline. Every bit as good as the IMEX Step Dawgs.

To summarize my feelings on the different tyres I tried at the May round of ARRC, here is an extract of an email I shot to Kaetwo a couple of weeks ago...

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

My favourite dry conditions rock only tyre are still the cut juggys. The diameter is nice and traction is great IF it is dry. The slightly larger diameter lets me crawl lines where Clod size tyres get hung up under the diffs. If you check out the latest vids of me playing on rocktopia you will see the Juggys in action. Note that Juggys are woeful in stock form.

If it starts to get damp or dusty, the step pins are simply awesome. They are only limited by the small maxx diameter. They have bulk traction yet when they do slide they are very predictable. I tried them on the first course of our last comp and they just didn't have the clearance to let me get over the hardest obstacle. They simply walked thru the rest of the course though. I tried the same course again later with the Juggys and I crawled the whole course with no problems.

Giant traks are a well kept secret. I am surprised that more guys aren't running them.

I'd like to experiment a little with Associated GTs. The diameter is nice but the stock tread pattern is terrible. With 1/2 foams and some clever cutting they might be the hot ticket. I tried a set out a couple of weeks ago at our last comp (see attached pics). I had mixed feelings about them. In these conditions the Juggys were a better tyre.
