Default Noob Super Clod

Well I finally have my super class clod put together. 18.5" wheelbase with 5" belly clearance. I used the NN chassis from TCS, JP Custom Knuckles, Integy Axle Tubes, Integy Metal Gears (All Gears Metal), Traxxas Big Bore Shocks, Thundertech CVD's, Thundertech BTA Steering, G Made Upper Link Mounts, RC4WD 12mm x 23mm Wheel Adapters, Two HiTec 5955TG's, Two Integy 55T Lathe Motors, 8T pinions front and rear, Moab XL's, Proline Wheels, All Homemade Links except one Integy Steering Link, temporarily using crappy Traxxas ESC until my two Quark 33's arrive, which also means I need new brushless motors, thinking about Crawlmasters? Oh, and I can't forget, radio is a DX6. I know I'm probably forgetting to mention some stuff, but you all get the idea. Oh, I'm also waiting on a Novak voltage regulator and batteries, I will be installing some kicka$$ Reedy matched 4200 Sub C's, of course being installed on those sweet JP Knuckles. And here's some pics. Please feel free to ask questions and make comments, and I must thank everyone for putting up with my dumb noob questions and providing a ridiculous amount of priceless info!

Here's a close up of the front end. The BTA servo mount allowed too much flex for me so I made this aluminum bracket to support it, no flex now.

I shaved off the lower screw mount on the axle housing and used some super hard super slick epoxy to strengthen the area.

The BTA Steering definitely needed some tweaking to make it work. I had to grind off the end of my servo horn, cock the servo mount slightly back, and secure it with the extra bracket in front to keep it from moving around. I also dremeled out the screw mounting holes for the link and installed some plastic bushings to make the pivot points smoother.

Here's the rear axle. This servo mount also allowed too much flex, so I made another bracket to support it. Zero flex practically.

Very nice and clean build, your bta setup is making me want to bring back from retirement my agressor system.

Thanks! I was expecting the carbon fiber components when I ordered the BTA steering, but Thundertech must have switched to aluminum? OK by me. The bushings I installed at each end of the steering link really smoothed things up for the steering.

Nice and clean. You need to go scratch it up now.

Thanks Double J! Waitin on some backordered Quark's and still need to decide on some motors, then time to hit the rocks. So far it's only seen stairs, the crappy Traxxas ESC glitches out bad when I try to steer with both servos, need to get the rest of my electronics together, and then go scratch it up!

I'd get the Revolvers, the Crawlmasters have a reputation for requiring a high voltage. But, holmes did remake them with a high KV so you might be alright.

Revolvers huh? I plan on running 6 4200 Sub C's for now, so the Revolvers may be a good choice. I did consider running more than 6 cells, but I'm still undecided. I hear a lot of people talk highly of the crawlmasters. What do you run Mnster?

Would I be better off going with 8 sub C's if I'm using two Quark 33 ESC's and two revolvers or two crawlmasters? The only reason I'm hesitant going with 8 cells is because I'll need to figure out a way to supply my battery charger with 12VDC if I go to 8 cells. I have a Novak Ionic charger and it recommends using a DC power supply when charging 8 cells.

I have original outunners from JRH on my CLAW and Pimp cane super clods, and they have more than enough power for me, i am running 6 cell packs 4400mah from maxamps, 8/9 pinion on both rigs, and for my driving style i have more than enough wheelspeed.

I'm running cheap $25 motors imported from china. They work great but are low quality.

My best advice would be to send Johnrobholmes a PM he will tell you which is better for your setup.

Or post your setup here.
