Default Clod drive shaft question

Does anyone know if this has been done before, splitting the driveshafts in half and adding a piece of another driveshaft to make the driveshaft longer? or what do any of you think on it being done?

May I ask why do you want to extend the shaft?

custom project I don't really wanna say what but yeah I'm seeking of a way to widen the Clod axle WITHOUT using wheel wideners. I want the axle itself to be wider by maybe 2 full inches.

You could always use an axle that can be made ANY width you want. What overall width do you want hex to hex?

i was actuly looking at my tranny whole it was apart the other night tinking it would be just too easy to put a spacer between the case and the axle tube. and then take 2 shafts and cut/weld them to fit the proper length.

Spell check is a WONDERFUL thing. Reading that, made my head hurt.

On your idea though, that would work if the steel used is weldable. If it's pot metal,it'll just break at the weld under a tiny bit of strain. Some guys have brazed them together, not sure how that holds up. I'm not real keen on the idea though.

Much Thanks for the input folks. I ended up figuring this one out so no need to brain storm on it any longer. Once I start my project I'll most likely be showing what I was able to come up with however it will probably be on RCMT, ClodTalk, and Scale4x4 being it's not a crawler.

how about the hex that locks into the sides of the diff, it would be rad if someone sold thoughs that would compensate for axle tube spacers. i think this would be rad simply cuz having to do outboard spacers seems like it would cause steering issues ie. make it harder for the servo's to trun and such due to the goofy location of the rim in relation to the pivit point. guess a 1/4 scale servo wouldnt have any issues though ahahh.....
