Default Another take on high clearance axles..

Well I got inspired by cspyy to hack and reshape my clod axles, I've had these axles for about ten years and for about 5 of those they've been on my crawler, so it was kinda hard for me to take the dremel to um'. But I soon got over that and started cutting away.

I didn't want to completely bond the cases together because I like to grease the gears often, my plan was to try to get rid of as much bulk as I could.

It took some shaping and trimming but seems to be good, I still need to stitch the pieces together and fill in some of the gaps, I also want to shave off as much material as I can off the bottom to get some more clearance.............And of course do it all over again for the other axle

Here are a few pics so far.

Thanks for looking.

It will be fine for awhile... in '06 I ran a 2.2 to the state championship with no bottom on the case at all (cut flush with the bottom of the axle tube). I did put a lexan bottom on (in a similar shape that you employed) when I took it to nationals (so they wouldn't complain about it being six wheel drive) that truck did well finishing 3rd in the nation... never broke a gear or a case cut like this (on a 2.2).

Thanks...
