As you guys all know, this is Tamiya's new Land Cruiser 40, based on their new CR-01 chassis. Hopefully this sheds some new light on Tamiya's first crawling-oriented rig.

Street Price: $299-$325 (this came from Tamiya marketing today)

About the model:

1/10 scale Toyota Land Cruiser 40
New CR-01 dedicated crawler chassis features heavy-duty ladder frame with aluminum main chassis rails and plastic cross members.
Lexan body with separately molded mirrors, turn signals and front grille (yeah, that's not a photo-realistic decal)
New 2.2 Tamiya Vise Crawler tires designed for crawling measure 4.9 in tall x 2.2 in wide (don't confuse 2.2in width with the 2.2in wheel size)
Comes standard with 2.2 three piece beadlock wheels
Coil spring suspension
Aluminum suspension arms
Axle mounted steering servo
Centrally located planetary gearbox with 40.5:1 final gear ratio
540 type motor included
Radio, ESC, servo, and battery/charger required

The LC40's planetary gearbox comes with a 20 tooth pinion for a 40.5:1 ratio. Separately available 16-25 tooth pinion gears can be installed for gear ratios ranging from 50.6:1 to 32.4:1.

Thanks to the compact planetary transmission that is mounted as low as possible in the chassis, the battery can also be mounted down low between the frame rails to help lower the center of gravity and maintain a nice scale appearance. Forward battery placement aids in climbing steep ascents.

4.9 in tall x 2.2 in wide Vise Crawler tires are mounted on Tamiya's new three piece beadlock wheels (which are 2.2 size wheels...for those that missed it in the list above).

4-link coil spring suspension provides the flexibility to conquer difficult terrain. Inboard dampers are connected to the suspension via cantilever linkages, which are then connected to a stabilizer torsion bar to provide sure-footed balance.

From these shots you can see that there's a good bit of changes with the axles.

I'll let you guys discuss it...I don't need to point it all out.

Those are definitely not TLT axles, I see replaceable C's. So by saying its a 2.2" wide tire but I guess its not 2.2 diameter? Tranny looks very interesting, but not that easy to mount to a chassis plate.

Looks sweet, but there's still so many questions to be answered.

Wheelbase?
Locked diffs?
2.2 wheels, 1.9 wheels?
Will tlt parts fit the diffs? R&P's, CVD's, ect...

Looks like Tamiya has been doing some homework. Updated TLT axles, new chassis and a nicely design suspension. I'll definitely get one after my AX10. Not a fan of the Land Cruiser though.

Tires look like a cross between Moabs and Rock Crushers, too bad they are likely stock TLT-ish in size. The axle C's are definitely beefier, abd there is extra ribbing I can see on the diff, I hope we get to see more of the axle soon.

Other than that, and maybe the upper spring stays, I can't say much else interests me...

Do yourself a favor and re-read the first post...don't just look at the pics.

Jason, if I had to guess I'd say the body has a 11 in wheelbase with the chassis sitting at 12-12.5 in. This is based on the physical size of the battery in relation to the wheelbase and a bit of photoshop work based on tire diameter.

I don't have hard numbers track width, weight, wheelbase, overall length, or info on the specifics of the axle internals.

For what it's worth...I've heard rumor that the tires have performance similar to that of Losi's Claws. Let's hope.

Looks like the axles are clocked for better drive shaft angles. like the Ax-10 axles.

I did, but it sounds like the 2.2 in the wheel description is the width, not the diameter in the way it's worded.

Wheels are 2.2 dia and the tire is 4.9" tall and 2.2 wide.

Some things I noticed about the Cs

It appears you have two mounting options for the Cs.

If you look at this pic you can see the Phillips head screw that holds it on and what appears to be an empty hole for an alternate position.

Speculation right now, but hey...let's hope.

If it comes as a roller kit, and with the $225-250 street price, IMO, it is the normal Tamiya "just a bit outside" thing. The canti's are normal Tamiya and great off the bat for a scaler, but why keep them with any modifications? My measurements put WB at 11.25", which is great for the body it comes with...............but change it up, and the links and canti's become worthless. Great for a scale 2.2 rig out of the box with stock body, but wanna change anything, and the whole ballpark changes.

Links are too short for any kind of comp rig, even more the lousy shock canti setup, so throw comp rig out of the scenario.

With a hard body, sure, it stands out...........with a lexan body, it fits into the new "out of the box crawler" crowd, and not much stands out as overwhelming as far as I can see. For about the same price, to compare this truck to a AX10 [outside of the scale vs comp relationship], is kinda silly............and once you add in the low cost of adding a scale chassis to an AX10, the comparison gets really quite funny.

With that said, as soon as those frame rails hit tower, I will be ordering about 3-4 sets!!
