Default Baskeheurs' CR-01 Belgium

Hi there,

My name is Bas and I live in Belgium.
I'm 28 and posessed with cars. Big,Small,Fast,slow,LHD,RHD,... anything with wheels in general....

I found you site when I was looking around what you could do with those crawlers.
About 10 years ago I was doing alot of RCing. But ultimùatly sold almost everything(which I regret now)
(Thundershot,Midnight pumpkin,Bearhawk and a super wheelie)
Now I have an TT-01 drift car but that started to be boring and everything stopped there.
One day surfing the net recently I found a video about crawling and I was sold from the first moment!!!! That is just awesome!

And there stuff went wrong.

So enough about me this should become my CR-01:

I've ordered my CR-O1 and it should be on it's way to me now.(Release in Europe is quite late)

Some stuff I ordered in the mean time to get started.
And I would like to know what your opinions on those are.usefull/junk/...

Team integy Reduction gear box 2.5/1
Novak 55T fithy-five
Hobbywing EZrun 35A ESC + Brushless 3032Kv motor(Came cheap,No high expectations)
MG945 servo
Hot racing driveshaft retainers

I found a cheap new wheelie king radio and reciever to use.
But I still have my Acoms too but don't want to tear the other car appart.

I have used 2200Mah Nosram batteries in my drifter. Will they be strong enough for the crawler?
Or what do you guys suggest.

I'll keep you posted when the kit arrives and I start building the kit.

I Love the site BTW,verry clean CR-01's!!! I love it!

I spent a month in Belgium a while back and it would seem that the area is more suited for trail blazing then rock crawling. Although with all the Stella Artois beer I drank there, I could have made an awesome pile of bottles to climb.

Ok a small update.

The car is allmost finished.
It seems that there is one of the BD15 parts (ball joint in drive axle) that had one of the pins not sticking through completely.

It held for about 10-15mins driving in my livingroom and then it died ;)

The new one is ordered and i'm waiting on it. so now my car is a 2WDer ;)

The reduction box indeed is to big to fit. But we'll make that happen when I have more time.

The brushless thing works perfect. Nice to use in setup and stuff but the motor is way to fast for crawling.

Now I have the 55T novak in with the stocj 20t pinion. Quite speedy muhahaha

I'll post some pics later on this week.

Greetings.

Belgium indeed hasn't got that many nice crawling places but we'll make that work in the backyard . With the debris I have lying around!

I'm reading the forum since a couple of months, and i still haven't decided what to buy, a cr01 or a ax10.
I have a mercedes G shortwheelbase body laying around to mount on it.

When i have mine, i'll let you know ...

and my backyard can or will be transformed to ... haha

Default Part choices for CR-01

Welcome to crawling!! It is addictive!

Your stuff -
ESC:
Not familiar with the Hobbywing ESC, but it says it has various settings for DRAG and ABS brakes.
The Drag brake is important if you are really on some rocks (or hills in Belg.) Start at a medium setting and increase or decrease from there.
Motor:
The 3032KV is way too fast for true crawling. If you are staying brushless, then go with something in the 850-1500kv range.
Be careful when ordering a motor that the shaft diameter is what you need (1/8 inch, or 3.2mm). You can use a 5mm shaft, but will have to change the pinion gear. If you buy another motor that is an 'outrunner' versus in 'inrunner' you have to be sure the mounting holes are the correct spacing. Some airplane outrunner motors have wider mounting holes.
Motors and adapter plate examples
http://holmeshobbies.com/home.php?cat=3
The Novak 55T motor is great. They make a nice ESC to go with that, called the "Rooster - Crawler Edition".

With whatever motor choice you decide on, order a few pinion sizes to gear for speed or torque. Smaller pinion = low speed = Torque = more control over/around obstacles.

Servo:
The Hobbywing ESC you got only provides 6v/1.5A to the Rx and your steering servo. The MG945 servo will be starving with that. It needs 3a min. If you use that ESC, you will need to provide the servo power from a separate battery pack (4-5AA batts) or wire in a BEC that provides more then 3amps. If you plug either of these into your Rx, you need to remove the RED wire between your ESC and Rx (Rx will burn up with two power sources into it).
The Towerpro 945 is a high torque servo. Some like it, some do not. I have some and they run fine. They are a cheaper servo.

Have fun!!
If you have questions on BECs or best pinions, search the forums.

Hi,

Just been to long since I visited!
2nd baby was born on 6-6-08 so been bussy since then ;)
Just read swely's post.

I've picked up the crawling again.
But I need some advice from you crawling guru's as I'm in the dark in some things!

First some new specs:

The first brushless engine was indeed waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to fast.
The novak is put to rest!
Now I use a brushless 890kV motor. Super nice control and with the EZ-run it has good programmable brake and throttle response!
The reducer didn't fit as you guys thought.(My bad)

The wheelie king radio was never put in.
Just don't work for me with crawling so I use my acoms 2CH

Parts changed from then untill now.

JIA's mod
3racing stuff:
Springs
Shocks
side frame
Skid plate
engine mount
knuckle's(steering)
Servo bed(FR)
Servo mounts(FR)

On it's way:
3racing linkage std and high clearance.
Pro-line roofrack and lightbar.

Now I want to make these lights to work!
And I'm going to convert my Yota to 4WS.

What would you guys reccomend:

Futaba 6EX (2,4GHz)
Spektrum DX6i (2,4GHz)

I want to: Steer F&R,throttle,winch,lights(2 sets(1:car 2:Roofrack))

And can you guys help me out about the last piece of post by Sweli about the servo part?
I don't quite get it with the BEC,ESC,... stuff. did a search but didn't get any wiser!

Pics are coming as soon as I get the linkage installed(when it arrives)

Best regards from rainy Belgium

Did the onroad/off-road thing also.

But when we had are first kid I couldn't spend that much time anymore on RC-ing.
Kinda gave up.....

Then a friend of mine showed me a UTUB-vid about crawling and then S$!t hit the fan.

Crawling can be done indoor-outdoor. Don't have to leave home to have fun anymore.
Kids also like it. They play in the garden when I crawl... Can't be better!

Seems like there are a lot of Belgian's on this forum allready,so maybe we should meet sometime!.

I'm from Stabroek BTW.

Greetz.

Hi,

The links are installed.
It give's some more clearance. Why else would you buy these.
But I haven't got the time to test them verry good.

Charged my batteries for the truck and after 10 mins of play the reciever batteries died on me... Bummer

Ordered some more stuff:

CC BEC with link.
Junfac driveshafts
Junfac skidplate(front)
Junfac heavy duty steering rod.

The advice you gave me about the CC BEC makes sense.
I noticed yesterday that the servo indeed feels weak when you use the wheels to overcome an obstacle. Little do I know!. Thanks guys!

But still stands the question: Which of the radios would you guys recommend to me?(Futaba 6EX/Spektrum DX6i/Something else)
I'm totally unfamiliar with more-channel radios and I searched my @ss of to find info but don't seem to find a clear answer.

And here a pic of the BJ.

More pics to come but my camera seems not to like me when transferring pics....:-P

Ah, the Belgian thread!
I've got a CR-01 unimog, so does my father, and a friend has a converted wheelyking, since a couple of weeks we've been bitten by the crawling bug
Nice to see a lot of belgians here.
We have a forum, a quiet one, we use it to post pictures and movies from our rides, and to tel each other where we're going to ride.
So if you might like to come ride with us (it's not just us 3, there's about 15-20 active members on there) visit us at www.VRCP.forumup.be
we are from Antwerp and ride every sunday morning

some footage of our first ride of 2009.
