| Sorry guys, I’ve neglected to provide my impression of the Tamiya CR-01. I bashed the living shit out of it this last Sunday after our MNRCRC comp. All of us who brought our scalers played follow the leader, I was the leader at the start, and everyone else either couldn’t make it over the “path” or pussed out. With that said, what does this rig need to “crawl”? Lower the center of gravity, use a lipo, or 2/3a’s don’t put a massive sub-c pack in if you don’t have to. Add weight to the wheels, wrap pipe sweating solder or lead if you can get it on the inside of the wheels. You want the front 25%-50% heavier than the rear. Take the stock drive shafts (transmission to the diff), and throw them out, replace with Traxxas shafts and steel yokes. Cantilever system, you know what I think already. The stock motor is a good all around performer, keep it. Get a Mamba Max ESC, it will run your stock motor today and a brushless motor tomorrow. A good servo, you don’t need to go crazy, remember the axles components are plastic. Radio; get a spektrum if you can, no channel conflicts EVER. With that said, I’d call this more of a comp rig than a scaler, but, remember this is a stock Tamiya, things will break if you don’t take it easy. If you want to crawl competitively, buy an AX-10, if you want to have fun buy a CR-01 (Tamiya, if you use that line, $$$). See you on the rocks! |

Sorry guys, life calls and it's been a while since I've posted any updates, I promise this will make up for this... Yup, I added a working scaleoffroad winch... Made the bumper out of raw material you can purchase at home depot, very simple. The bracket that mounts the assembly to the frame is from a high-lift kit. Oh...yeah, did I mention it's controlled by a Warn wireless winch controller. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlkGo-UKMGo I had to add a 11.1v Lipo to power the winch controller. Made my own hook, about 2 hours with a dremel on a chunk of alu, I'll let you know how it holds up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24aRIIwH1WY I took it out last weekend and helped a few up the rocks. Nice, I'm diggin the shocks. Can you buy a shock set or do you have to buy all the parts? What is the length fully extended? That winch is sweet too...

Updates: Shortened the wheelbase, looks "correct" now. Starting to show some wear... I think I need to work on the bumper, needs more winch protection, ouch. Removed the last of the old spring set-up, I figured since the Losi shocks were there... Rear detail. Front detail. It's fun to wheel, but it's very top heavy. Without a complete chassis overhaul, I think it has reached the apex of it's capabilities. |

one question: why did you install the shocks turned around? I mean they look, if they got installed turned for 180.
