Servo Saver Problem

Hi,
I got a problem at my original servo saver for CR01, i got it out crawling yesterday afternoon, suddently the steering got loose..i go check the servo saver teeth been wear out....is this normal? any suggestion what servo saver i should used? i'm using hitec servo HT645MG.

Yep it happens all the time, the more force you place on the steering the more likely it is to strip the spline out, I have 2 supers with 1/4 scale servo's on them both and I use the alloy servo savers. I have hammered them and have yet to strip one. Its the 1st thing I do when I put a servo saver on throw away the plastic and replace with alloy.

My CR-01 has alloy one fitted also and no problems so far

How's things Spec-R? Been a while ;)

Personally I would ditch the servo saver and just get a good servo horn ;)

Where can i get de alloy one??

Hi genki...yea its been a while....ha ha busy lately....never know you into crawling after i join the forum.everything was find. so i can direct used the servo horn instead of the servo saver? will it damage the servo??...u know now adays good servo is pricy..hee hee

The reason you are having a problem is because none of the splines in the kit are for hitec servos. I ended up getting a pack of hitec airplane servo ends because of the offset and length you need to clear the bumper i could not find an alumminum one to fit.

ok now i understand why...thanks. as lastnite i did try one heavy duty servo saver..it was too big and low...i think i need to find some more.

i haven't had any problems with the original servo saver and i have a hitec 645mg on it and i run mine hard as hell"thumbsup"

I had the same problem with I was running hitecs. Now I have two ACE 1313s on mine, I am using the stock savers with no problems.

I will need to get metal ones as part of my all-metal plan, though.

Ditch the servo saver and get an aluminum servo arm.....

I use Traxxas maxx servo savers on all my trucks, never broke one. Works perfect on the CR-01.

Spec-R .. ditch the servo saver they flex to much.

bump and a question :)

what screw do you use for the 645MG and the stock servo saver? The Tamiya kit has 2 3mm screws which are too wide, and one 2.6 which seems the right thickness, but the thread is wrong. Does the kit have a finer threaded 2.6mm screw somewhere? Can I just use the one that comes with the hitec (which is shorter than the 10mm Tamiya ones)

Finally, if I decide to upgrade, what would be a recommended metal replacement - ideally something that'll bolt straight on - don't mind if it has a servo saver or not.

mrklaw 08-04-2009 04:28 AM

hmm. Well the 'hi torque servo saver' kit I got (p/n 51000) for the rear steer, includes a 2.6 x 10mm standard screw (non-tapping) so clearly Tamiya realised some people have servos needing a 2.6mm screw. Shame they didn't add that into the CR01 kit though...

Still, the 8mm-ish servo screw seems to bite, so that'll do for now.

Just get a decent servo and you won't need any saver. I use JR 8911 (DS) and at 25kg of torque there's little than can stop it. With a saver and such torque you would actually force the saver open if the wheels couldn't move.

JR also makes a nice assortment of very high precision machined aluminium arms that can be trimmed to size for any application and they're quite cheap. I use two of these for steering.

No need for a servo saver, the CR-01 doesn't do any more than 5-7mph, I doubt you'll smack into anything hard enough to break the servo.
I just have a servo arm and thats all. Same servo as you.

igbandy 08-04-2009 03:44 PM

Two things

As many of the folks have said ditch the servo saver for a metal arm, Losi do a nice line in them.

The Hitec 645MG uses an M2.5x6mm or 8mm long screw.

i had the same happen to my saver on my 645. when it happened i just put the one for the airtronics servo in it and its held up for 5 months so far
