Default StigAre's CR-01 (Norway)

Well, I've actually had my CR-01 for quite some time now, but I thought I'd share with all of you

It is pretty much stock I think, std gearbox and motor.
I've used a 24kg Hitec digital servo for front steering, and a Futaba 12kg servo for rear steering, so I have 4WS.

The standard tamiya tires were swapped for a set of Proline Moabs, wich performs a hole lot better.

Here's some pictures of my ride so far...

I'm planning some kind of winch, and HighClearance links is in the mail as we speak....

Yeah I ran Moabs on mine and was really surprised how much better they are than the stock tires. And in general I'm not a fan of Moabs, for me on my crawlers they weren't all that great.

I'm quite pleased with those tires yes..
But, I just have to have a set of boggers to, but then I need another body to go with those tires

Looks good. Do you have LED lights in the lights on the fenders as well? How was that made?

How do you like the driveshafts as well?

Yes there is leds in those lights.
I just drilled a hole in the body, and hole in the plastic lights, and mounted 3mm leds in there, and voila

The driveshafts seems to be working just fine, and they are alot stronger than the original plastic ones, which I already have broken once...

WINCH INSTALLED!

Yes, now it's in.
Just for trying though, the servo is only 3.7kg, so now strong enough.
But it's working like a charm

It's perfect job.
I make my winch too.
Servo is hextronik 10kg.
I hope so that it's function well.

Hi,

very nice build
You are using a 24kg Servo....I also want to use the same servo within the CR-01, but I was told, that the ESC (in my case Novak Rooster Crawler) needs an external BEC, because the amperage is to high for the ESC.
I see, you are using more than 1 servo...do you have an external BEC or isn't it a problem to use only e.g. the Novak Rooster Crawler ESC without ext. BEC?

Thx in advance!!
Mr.Tee

I'm using 3servoes on the same ESC.
No problem at all, 2steering servoes and 1 winch servo.
Works like a charm.

Im using a standard Tamiya ESC.

The Novak Rooster Crawler BEC is very strong at 5 amps and 6 volts. You should be good without the external BEC.

I have a Tamiya ESC from my little M03 Miata, it's the 101BK I think. In the manual it says the output voltage to the receiver is 7.2 volts. That's higher than usual. I imagine some servos wouldn't like that.

That's a sweet looking truck. I like the colors you chose for the body!

Thank you for the reply!

Now I ordered a Hitec HS-5985 MG Servo with about 12kg. So I now have the 24kg and the 12kg servos...is the 24kg Servo not to strong for the chassis? Do you recognized any signs of fatigue at your chassis?
The salesmen in different shops always want to tell me, that the 24kg servo is much to strong and can damage my CR-01...
Also they told me it's not a good idea to use different servos in front and rear because of the possibly different rotation speeds and variations of steering. Can you confirm this?

Currently I don't know wether to replace the 24kg servo with another 12kg version or to try the 24kg servo.

I have a hitec24kg and a futaba12kg servo.
Theres is no damage to chassi og anhything else, and I haven't noticed if there is any different in turning speed on the two.

I don't see any negativ things in using two different servoes.
So just start mounting and take it out for a test.

If you do use 2 different servo's I would put the slower and or weaker in the rear, since front steering is more important and rear is considered to be trailing.
I also would get a cc bec, it has more rated output then any esc or bec out on the market, get the programming link to so that you can up the voltage from 5.1 to 6v
I am running a airtronics 94102 upfront, toward pro mgr996 in the rear, CC sidewinder esc, and a cc bec on 2s2p li ion cells.
