| CR-01 spring chop???
Anyone experimented or seen anything to do with shortened springs? Does it effectively lower ride height? I am thinking of trying this, and switching the cantilever dampener system with some Highlift dampeners. Any suggestions? I really want to make this thing look like the real deal.

I have done a buttload of research on here as well as tamiya websites and aftermarket sites as well. I was suprised on how many options were available. I have found out a lot about the short barrel springs, as well as different twist bar setups. I also think that integy stuff will also add nicely. Better aluminum shocks to rid of oil leakage, and aluminum drive shafts that look as goodvas they perform. I'm going to do some shopping and see what I can make of a rig.

Thought about cutting, but wasn't sure how well the spring would still be retained. Just zip tied a couple coils together instead.

| Don't Cut Droop..
Cr-01 is naturally has a high CG. Instead of cutting the spring, I install internal springs and drooped the suspension. Plus misc other things to improve articulations. See the before "droop" or stock height. After the "droop" Modification.... Note : I did away with the cataliver suspension and install Losi 4" Crawler shocks. I also modified the steering (Front and Rear) linkage locations to allow for a higher approach angles. The CR-01 is a very capable crawler, I have proven the set-up in competitions and was able to stay up with the very popular axails. The only thing I am missing is a "Dig" transmission mod, a japaneese company now makes a bolt on "dig unit" for competition. I actually drive my tamiya more than my full comp Axial Rig, the tamiya is just more fun to drive and looks alot better than comp rigs.... GoodLuck with your build... Specs. Scaler/comp rig. +1. My drooped unimog does better than my reign châssis with wk axles. Both have a r2d as the rctrax dig is hard to find!

Drcooper - how did you install the r2d dig into the tamiya CR-01 transmission? Can you post some pics? Rctrax dig is definitely hard to find. I saw it once being sold in Ebay. | |
