Default Testing new suspension setup - warning - lots of pictures!

A few weeks ago I went to a local 2.2 crawler comp that was held up one of the canyons near my work. It's a nice little crawling area down near a small creek-bed. So the next day I took my rig (still with the cantilever suspension setup) and attempted to climb some of the same routes. The lack of suspension travel and high COG were seriously limiting the obstacles that I could conquer. So I set out to improve my rig's climbing capabilities - here is what I ended up with.

Upgrades:
Losi 4" crawler shocks
Junfac drive shafts
Junfac battery plate
2 cell Lipo battery

I ended up removing the cantilevers (front and rear) but I kept the rear springs in place to try and counter some of the torque steer. When I took it back to the comp site I was very happy with the results. Here are some pics from my last trip.

These are in sequence:

This is an obstacle that I was not able to clear with the canti setup:

Moving the battery down onto the axle really helps in not tipping:

OK - so I didn't drive out of this one, but I am really happy with the flex that I am getting now:

I drove into this one - but I think that I would need a dig to make it out. Once I got my nose planted here the rear wheels had a lot more traction than the front wheels and I ended up tipping. Would have made it with dig though.

Love having more droop

Saved it (had to back up a little first)

It doesn't show up in the picture very well - but my front right is off the ground. It is a lot more stable like this now.

The next three are all at the same spot - just different angles.

This was a fun/tough section to drive

I rolled here - but was able to save it (no touching)

This one was all about tire placement - soo much fun.

Made it...

Yes - they are the Flat Irons. They are a big improvement over the stock tires. I really like them.

Nice photos! The crawling ability of your CR-01 is pretty impressive. They're so cool looking and unique trucks. I've been wanting one for a long time!

Yes - they are a lot of fun, I have enjoyed building and then modifying my CR-01. I am quite pleased with the way it climbs right now. I just need to finish water proofing it now.

very nice pics. I want to build a scale rig but I am undecided on wether to build a tuber or ladder framed rig. Tamaya cr is always a good route too

Wow! Great picts of what looks like a really cool crawling spot.

And your truck looks really good with the mod. Just sort of odd seeing two sets of springs under the chassis.

I think that removing the cantilever set up is my next mod as well. Just having a hard time deciding on some new shocks that sort of look scale.

I suppose it is a small concession in the scale look of my rig - but I am really enjoying the climbing ability for now. At some point I will probably experiment with removing the rear springs and see how it affects my rigs climbing ability.

I really like my Losi 4" crawler shocks so far - 4 aluminum threaded shocks for ~50 bucks.
