Default Cantilever tweaks

Just wanna share some tweaks I did to the cantilevers. First I did something to get rid of the play in the cants, inspired by minicracker here:

Canti mods that worked

I couldn't commit to JB welding mine, so instead I used zip ties. No more play! It's cheap, there aren't any parts to disassemble, and it's 100% reversible!

Front

Rear

You might have noticed the fuel tubing on the rear shocks. Those who have done the JIA rear shock hole mod to regain travel are probably familiar with this scenario:

cantilevers turning the opposite direction

To fix it, just slip some fuel tubing over the shafts.

Problem solved!

Mounting the shocks in this location will keep the wrong way flip from happening also.

I tried that location too, but I found that there is still a chance for the rear cants to flip

Very resourceful
Try adjusting the upright turn-buckles to make the cantilever compress the shock fully before flipping (i.e. make it a bit longer). Might take a bit of trial and error, but that's how I stopped my rear tyres from hitting the body at full articulation.

Cool idea! Wonder why I didn't think of that before.......

I just did that. It works great!. I also inserted the zip tie from inside so that the knucle will hide inside the hole. Looks better that way.

I did this to my truck and it does take care of the slop in the cantis. Thanks for the idea!

I realize this is an old thread, but after going through it, and finding the tips useful, I have a question about the rear inboard link mounts. I see you've added spacers underneath the pivot balls, and my question is why? Does it add to the articulation, or does it flex better? I have seen it on another CR-01 before, but since you have done so many mods to your CR-01, including the spacers, I thought I'd ask you.

Thanks.

Hi, are you asking me about my set up?

i just got a cr01 second hand, and it's missing some of the cantis part's, so i just eliminated it entirely. it will be a dedicated scaler/crawler, so it's not too big of a deal. i'm still keeping the stock spring and locations, but i've been trying to figure out the best place to mount the shock dampener's so that they reduce body roll/axle wrap(binds itself up without any shocks on) but doesn't limit travel a ridiculous amount. right now i have no shocks on the front, and it's fine besides being a little bouncy, but the back needs shocks otherwise it twists itself up. but the downside is that i lost a lot of flex.

Yes, sorry EeePee. It was your rig that has the spacers.

Here's my CR-01 thread: EeePee's CR-01

Here's something to read in relation to those spacers in more detail: Anti Squat and Suspension Tech

That was the first thing I noticed when I saw the pic. I was like ohh snap nice geometry.

If the CR-01 was, sorry, is good for anything, it's tweaking on the suspension.

EeePee is right, omg i have tweaked my suspension soo many times that i have had nightmares about my rig! seriously though, i believe that the engineers at tamiya were like "ok guys the design on this truck is just way too simple, now what can we do to make things more complicated?? ok you in the back, "lets put upside down shocks on it with as many moving parts that we can fit on it!" and u know they were all like "BRILLIANT!!!!!" Pheww now that i got that outta my system, In all honesty i love my CR and spending countless hours trying to come up with the ultimate suspension set up. BTW i like the zip tie idea! good catch Bok!!
