Looks like a really fun spot! Your rig looks great too.... which body is that? |
Thanks Bro- The body is a Modified HPI Defender 90 Body w/ a handmade replica of metal roll cage from the 1:1 scale. |
Looks like it was a fun comp. How did your rig compare? |
Surprisingly I got 2nd place. The rig was initially set up for a regular 2.2 comp, but Tamiya CR-01 chassis is inherently top heavy, due to the battery location. But, it does pretty well in scale 2.2 comps, with the Right set-up. |
That location looks sick! Nice job at the comp! |
Way to represent :) Yeah - I moved my battery onto my front axle and it helped to lower my COG - much less tippy. |
I actually like running "Scaler" 2.2 CR-01 more than my comp Axial Rig. I just like the look of the tamiya during a comp. The current 6 cell battery in the stock location adds about 1lb sitting on top. But if I go to a 2 cell lipo, the wieght would only be less than a 1/4 of a 1lb. Big difference with battery type. Anyway good Idea with placing the battery on the axle, but for me in this rig I want to keep the battery hidden. Freshmeat - what is the step on your rig? |
I mounted a 2-cell lipo on my front axle using a Junfac battery plate. http://i442.photobucket.com/albums/q...t/P1010236.jpg http://i442.photobucket.com/albums/q...t/P1010220.jpg |
Nice set-up with your rig. I'll move my battery on the next comp. BTW - I notice you have the skid plate in front of your rig. Check out my steering set-up, you'll notice I moved my steering arms on top the hub carriers. You get more approach angle clearance. Nice rig!! I need to order another FJ40 body....:-( |
Check out my original body before the defender 90.. THEN: http://i533.photobucket.com/albums/e...s/IMGP5389.jpg NOW: http://i533.photobucket.com/albums/e...s/DSC04901.jpg http://i533.photobucket.com/albums/e...s/DSC04893.jpg |
Hello, that your frame is absolutely perfect. It is a manufactured home? I want to build something similar, but I do not know what to use for the material. What did you change? It is up to the car something of the original CR-01? Got to the frame and, where appropriate, a plan to send me email? Thank you ... And respect |

And respect Hey Carlos- Thanks man-, Yes the frame was home made with brass tubing. the frame was similar to 1:1 scale (find pictures in google) the Frame is my competition Axial chassis. The yellow defender 90 is the real CR-01 and this tamiya FJ40 body and tuber is on a comp rig (axial). |
Sick Defender 90. That thing is bad! I was born and lived some of my childhood in Santa Rosa. |
that's a really nice looking truck. did you have to change the wheelbase at all? |

Thanks |
I am using the orginal wheel base on the CR-01 chassis. The FJ 40 tuber is sitting on Axial chassis, which is wider than the Tamiya. Tire to use in my opinion are Losi Rock Claws or the Proline Hammers. There are newer tire out ther now the might be better, but I like the standard 2.2 tires. Here is my set-up Proline Hammers with Memory Foam in each rim. 1.5 lbs total weight each front tires .5 lbs total weight each rear tires |
