Yep it happens all the time, the more force you place on the steering the more likely it is to strip the spline out, I have 2 supers with 1/4 scale servo's on them both and I use the alloy servo savers. I have hammered them and have yet to strip one. Its the 1st thing I do when I put a servo saver on throw away the plastic and replace with alloy. My CR-01 has alloy one fitted also and no problems so far |

The reason you are having a problem is because none of the splines in the kit are for hitec servos. I ended up getting a pack of hitec airplane servo ends because of the offset and length you need to clear the bumper i could not find an alumminum one to fit.

I had the same problem with I was running hitecs. Now I have two ACE 1313s on mine, I am using the stock savers with no problems. I will need to get metal ones as part of my all-metal plan, though. |

bump and a question what screw do you use for the 645MG and the stock servo saver? The Tamiya kit has 2 3mm screws which are too wide, and one 2.6 which seems the right thickness, but the thread is wrong. Does the kit have a finer threaded 2.6mm screw somewhere? Can I just use the one that comes with the hitec (which is shorter than the 10mm Tamiya ones) Finally, if I decide to upgrade, what would be a recommended metal replacement - ideally something that'll bolt straight on - don't mind if it has a servo saver or not. |

hmm. Well the 'hi torque servo saver' kit I got (p/n 51000) for the rear steer, includes a 2.6 x 10mm standard screw (non-tapping) so clearly Tamiya realised some people have servos needing a 2.6mm screw. Shame they didn't add that into the CR01 kit though... Still, the 8mm-ish servo screw seems to bite, so that'll do for now. |

Just get a decent servo and you won't need any saver. I use JR 8911 (DS) and at 25kg of torque there's little than can stop it. With a saver and such torque you would actually force the saver open if the wheels couldn't move. JR also makes a nice assortment of very high precision machined aluminium arms that can be trimmed to size for any application and they're quite cheap. I use two of these for steering. |

No need for a servo saver, the CR-01 doesn't do any more than 5-7mph, I doubt you'll smack into anything hard enough to break the servo. I just have a servo arm and thats all. Same servo as you. |

Two things As many of the folks have said ditch the servo saver for a metal arm, Losi do a nice line in them. The Hitec 645MG uses an M2.5x6mm or 8mm long screw. |
