Default ... setting up new wheels - D2 part re-use?

... while waiting for the arrival on a new set of wheels+tyres, ref. Proline Hammer G8 w/ Eight Shooter Beadlocks Black Rings , I wonder if the default CR-01's D2 plastic parts (x4) - the one that has the cross section where each of the 4 axis will fit - is re-usable or we must use one per each set of wheels - that is, once fitted on a wheel it will become part of the all "fixed" set?

that part you use with what ever wheels you get, its the plastic hex. As long as the wheels you buy has the same hex size it works, the 8-Shooters will work with the stock plastic hex. You can upgrade to aluminum hex too. I have put these on mine Tamiya 6mm clamp-type hex hub I have them on 8-shooter wheels and they work well. They won't ever get rounded over, but they do have the chance to round the inside of the wheel where it fits if you're too hardcore.

Sometimes its hard to get the plastic one back out of the wheel, you have to use a small screwdriver and push it through from the front side of the wheel

You would be better of with some of the Axial alloy hubs if your going to be running 8 shooters on your CR. Reason being is that the 8 Shooters have a 7mm hole thru them not the usual 5mm. The Axial hubs have a locator on the end of them to help keep the wheel steady.

You might find that you will get a serious amount of wheel wobble using the standard Tamiya alloy hexes. I say this because it happened to me ;)

I now run the Axial hubs on my Comp CR-01, I use 8 shooters and some lovely DNA alloy wheels. With very little wheel wobble at all anymore.

Mine haven't started to wobble yet. The only wheel wobble I get is some free play in my servo horn. Its plastic and seems to have worn a little play into it. If I go straight down smooth surface the front wheels wobble left to right, looks kind of funny, but I'm almost never on smooth pavement anyways. Still need a metal horn though eventually

igbandy,

860Crawler,

... you're using the 8 shooters with the default cr-01 hubs that is?

I use the Tamiya hexes on my CR01 and High Lift without any wobbles.
I also used them on my TLT based comp rig, never had any issues...

What some people might be missing is the following fact regards to my comment to "wheel wobble".

The stock CR wheels have a 5mm hole

The Proline 8 Shooters that where mentioned in the first post have a 7mm hole, which is why I recommended the Axial hubs as they have a stepped 7mm shoulder on them. So as to locate the wheel properly.

They are 8 shooters with the Tamiya clamp style aluminum hubs. I've only used the stock hubs with the stock wheels
