| My gearbox screams
I dont like noise my gearbox is making, a high-pitched scream, the faster the higher. Cant get rid of it and other Cr-01 are so silent by comparison. This is what I already tried, some of them several times: Removed the transmission to both axles to check whether they are responsible for the noise Disassembly and regreasing all the cogs Disassembly and reassembly to check all cogs fit the right way Replacement of the two outermost bearings, because they showed rust Replacement of all plastic cogs Fineadjustment of spur/ pinion checked and rechecked Different pinions A special noisedampening mat between gearbox and bottom plate. Nothing worked. Sometimes there is a slight difference between going forward or rearward. Also after a disassemble the noise is somewhat different. But its always screaming its way down the woods, its nerve-racking. What can I do outside a complete replacement of the whole gearbox? |

I had that issue and the pinion was worn from being misaligned and in turn it wore the spur down. You may possibly need a new pinion gear and spur gear if its worn as bad as mine did. Mine sounded like a sawblade. Here is the after effects If you need to get a new pinion make sure you get a METRIC 48 pitch, besides that, get what ever tooth size you want. I went and bought some Robinson Racing pinions in 18 tooth (RRP111and 21 tooth (RRP1121). If you need to replace the spur, you need to get the plantetary gearset, even though you only need the one part. part # 51325 Last edited by 860Crawler; 11-19-2009 at 02:34 PM. |

if you are running metal gears try using a thick enough grease that wont fly off the gear teeth when they rotate.this will slow the wear down a little.

Thank you for the answers! I currently use a 35t brushed motor, but will try others to eliminate that possible source, too. All gears are sound with no tooth being mishaped. The grease I use is one of a very high viscosity, to be used for lubricating plastic parts. I will film my car from close upand post the video to give an impression of the sound. |
