Default Major downsides to the CR-01?

Considering buying a 'Mog.... does anyone have any regrets? Any disappointments? Fun factor for the $$?

They are fun bashers, but stock theyre heavy, have a high COG, and the turning radius leaves something to be desired.

That said, i still love runnin mine, but its not a comp rig.

I agree that they're obvious more scaler/trail worthy than comp worthy. How are they for bashing such as jumping?

Jumping? With a 2s LiPo pack mine goes about a brisk walking pace, stock drivetrain.

Mine goes so slow it doesn't even get air rolling off a sidewalk. LOL. You'll need a 3-4S Lipo to get some speed out of it, but its not really made for jumping, probably bounce like mad when landing.

I've tweaked mine and grown to like what it does so i don't have any regrets or any downfalls.

I have portal axles on mine...It moves at a geriatric walking pace. Fine by me, I'm starting to slow down myself.

High CoG but other than that an awesome truck. I really enjoyed the build of the kit and the mods to follow. Throw some Flatirons on it and have some fun trail running...

This was before the tire upgrade and any other mods....

i would have to chime in and agree with the others, it is GREAT for what it was made for, if you like a kit build with close to 1000 pieces, you'll enjoy. i am still delightfully surprised at what it can do, especially with the very inexpensive/free upgrades/mods around. plus if your into hop-ups, this truck has TONS!

Haha! Oh. Well I saw a video of one that went pretty fast. I don't know what kind of mods it had.

there are definately more capable crawlers out there for similar $$$

but saying that tamiya kits are great fun to build and drive and the bodies have great detail....if you just want something to bash around you'll be happy

Here it is. From the "How much can the CR-01 drivetrain hold up" thread. They say its got a Mamba Max 4600 in it

Get a screw kit, like rcscrewz, stay away from hexscrews-they suck big time and way over priced for shitty customer service !!!!!
Get better shocks, the stock ones are hit or miss for leaking
Get some short barrel springs, seems to be the most used
Get sone good center drive shafts, I like the Tamiya ones, some after market ones had issues if improper length for the front
Get a power screwdriver, you will be sore if you dont have one
Have loads and loads of fun, it aint a comp crawler out of the box without heavy mods, very very fun basher crawler, I would not trade my cr01 for anything

^^^That video is hysterical, it looked like it was going to take someone's head off a couple times.

My take on the CR01 is, unless you just want a fun, sort of cartoonish-looking basher and don't see yourself ever wanting more out of your truck, I'd stay away. It occupies a middle ground between scalers and comp crawlers, but is somehow a bit less capable than either. For the cost to convert it to a semi-scale 1.9 rig or a comp crawler, you could buy a whole new kit that's better suited to either of those purposes.

I'm not bashing the CR01, I'm just saying think about what you want out of a rig before buying one of these things. I like mine, but I really wish I got a scale 1.9 kit like something from RC4WD or an SCX-10 instead. Once I do get a proper scaler, I doubt I'll run my CR01 anymore.
