Default CR-01 drooped from Italy

Hi ladies and gentlemen, I'm from Italy and that's my CR-01 Tamiya.
First of all sorry for my english, but I'm trying...

I drooped my CR for take center of gravity down without lost articulation.
Shortened wheelbase for center rear wheels with the body...
A little touch of weathering for the body et voilą!;)

And these are some shots during a 'without-spring' experiment....

I hope you like it! It's a real fun to drive...

Looks good! I like the weathering you did. I was thinking about drooping my CR. Did you try it normal before? If so how does it compare with your current setup?
Thanks

No, no more torque twist at all without springs!
And yes, I' tried the normal setup. The difference is a lower center of gravity with more possibilities of made very steep ascends and descends without rollover, less 'bouncing-style' and more scale look...:-P

Likewise.

Daigoro - could you take some more photos of the body using flash or outdoor natural lighting, but close up? I'd love to see the weathering in more detail.

Here you are!

The body is painted from outside and weathering made with some tamiya kit like this:

and an old, dry brush.

That is one great job you did on the weathering of your CR-01. My hats off to you for your craftsmanship.

Wow. I didn't even know that stuff existed. I'm going to have to get me one of those kits.

Thanks for the pics - the weathering you've done definitely holds up to closer scrutiny.

Looks great.

Could you post some pictures without "clothes" and a description of how you did it.
How does it handle when driving "fast"?

FAST?!?! If you're going fast, this isn't your right rig!!
Anycase, with full gas it handle good, less bouncing that the stock setup and cornering well with low center of gravity.

I shortened the wheelbase with new homemade links and cutted the rear cvd. Now is veeeeery short!

And had fun with some spring set in the dampers!

I putted the springs inside the dampers in the opposite way that a normal droop setup because of course they works full extended with suspension compressed and viceversa....
Sorry if my explain is not clear!!

You mean that the springs are:
between the piston and the cap?

----I w D

or under the piston ?

--w--I D

(designed with autocad of course!!)

The first option: between the piston and the cap! These springs force the damper fully extended....

I love what you've done with the truck man. That's very, very nicely done. The weather is a nice touch, and I dig the ride height with the droop. What's the clearance under your skid w/ that setup? I'm curious to see if it's about the same as mine with the short barrel springs.

or is this a option that is included in the manual ?

mine is shipped so soon i can start build and take membership
in the CR01 world

Ok, sorry if I'm late but there's are few pictures without body....

As you can see, metalry, clearance is about 5cm (or 2 inches)

And here is the positive suspension travel with this setup:

And finally some test-shot! Well, it's not the best surface for testing the performance, but....

Thanks for you interest in my little CR-01!

Your rig looks like it is going to catch the rear fender in the wheels. Does this happen at all?

Also, you mentioned you don't have any more torque twist. Did that come about before you installed springs in the dampers or after?

One downside to your mod is that any shortening of the wheelbase is going to reduce the maximum ledge height you can climb (i.e. the maximum step height a rig can climb is somewhere around the length of the wheelbase, give or take a little bit for suspension setup, weight distribution, attack angle, etc).
