Plastic parts deform slightly and can be formed so that they "squish" together. Alloy parts cannot deform easily, so usually fit with some clearance. Because the cantilevers are not bolted together and the arms are splined to the shaft, there will usually be more slop with alloy parts than with the stock Tamiya stuff. If you really don't want to use the zip ties, you could use "loose fit" locktite, which is like a honey that hardens up and fills the little clearances before it locks things in place. You'll never be able to take the canitlevers apart again, most likely, and there's a good chance that you'll glue everything together solid so the suspension doesn't move at all. Little black zip ties are cheap - you can buy 1000 for the price of a set of aluminum arms, they work fantastic to get rid of the slop, you won't even notice them after a day or two, and you can snip them to take things apart. Dollar for dollar, it's the best improvement you'll ever make to the CR-01. |

Thank you for the thorough explanation. I'm not averse to using zip ties, so that's what I'll do. One could make a performance part that would press on without too much effort, but it seems the industry standard parts are more for the bling factor.
