Default Cr-01 Competitive Crawler??

hey guys, im gonna sell my paintball gun and its accesories for a decent price, because im just no into that sport anymore. So i already have my scx10 which does fine on the track that i will show you in the video, but i wanna keep the scx10 more of a trail rig, it has the hilux body on it, and its just set up to be a trail rig. I need a crawler that will do very good on this course>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEhl1mxrozU The course in the video is the exact same course i will be running my cr-01 on. The guy in the video owns a garage locally and i always go there to crawl but the scx10 just wont cut it. I cant get with my scx10 just about anywhere on that course in the video, but i need more cleareance, and its complicated. So will the tamiya landcruiser cr-01 do very good on that course??

The CR-01 is extremely top heavy. It's setup even with a 4 link conversion it will help but not dramatically. Plus the gears on the CR-01 are Tamiya grade plastic which is great...but running 3S (usually what most comp rigs run) might put a bit of a strain on them. With Axial trannys you can upgrade to steel gears and never worry about them again!

The CR-01 is more of a play around crawler with a scale body and looks. For that price I'd recommend buying an AX-10 or LCC used off this forum. Get an aftermarket chassis, decent electronics, 4 link, tires/wheels, and you'd be set!

No one around here comps with a CR-01. Seems to be more popular in Asia.

There have been a couple of guys on this CR-01 thread that have comped their CR-01. Supposedly, a couple of them have done well.

I do agree with the post above, that it is quite top heavy. I did everything I could to make my CR-01 comp worthy: stretched wheel base to 12.5, high clearance links, removed the cantis, put them back, new shocks, new springs, vanquish DHs, mayhem phatties, cougars, full sprung, droop, etc, etc....

Dont get me wrong, these mods helped performance a lot, but it was not going to beat an AX-10 in a 2.2 comp. I found that my CR-01 was apart more often that it was together. I have since kept only the mods that kept the scale appearance. When I finally realized that it was a scaler truck and not a comp truck, I have been much more happy with it. Mainly because I can run it whenever I want to since it was never apart waiting for me to finish the next mod.

I am just barely building my scx-10. From what I can tell the SCX-10 is actually more of a capable comp truck than the CR-01. If you are more concerened with doing well in comps and want a shaft, then the AZ10 is probably your best bet.

thanks for the reply's guys. Im not into the real competition crawlers like the ax10. They look plain ugly if you ask me. I know they perform like no other, but they look crappy. i would like to get some sort of a trail rig but i want it to perform almost as good as an ax10. I may be asking too much but idk

I have both & both are relatively stock. similar electronics & I agree with all that has been said. I would add that the turning radius on the CR01 is weak for comp or trail truck for that matter. I think the SCX does surprisingly well for a 1.9 trail rig. I find them different, obviously, but fairly comparable as to how they perform. I'm not into comps, I like to play in the rocks and I like a truck that looks scale & both do well at this. I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you are looking to upgrade performance from the SCX10, you won't get a significant boost in performance with the CR01. That said, it's a fun truck & I really like mine.

If you want to compete then buy a comp crawler like the AX-10 or something similar.

The Cr-01 is for scale looks and performance not for competing.
