Upgrades

Having killed the Esc and servo in my CR01 I have decided to embark on some upgrades. Here it is currently. Stock apart from Tamiya steel driveshafts and a 35t Tamiya Crawler Motor.

And the upgrades planned.

The only thing I'm waiting for now is time! I first have to pull the engine and sort the clutch on my 1:1 1958 VW Bug/Beetle.

...I should have mentioned that many of the upgrades are based on those tried and tested by 860 Crawler...many thanks.

Re: Upgrades

Ooo... this should be fun. I don't see any driveshafts? Did you already upgrade this? May I ask why you opted for the Tamiya wheels instead of the many other options out there?

Re: Upgrades

Yes, already have Tamiya driveshafts.

I couldn't make my mind up about wheels. I convinced myself that I'd save money with the Tamiya wheels which allowed me to buy the high clearance links....however with the aluminium beadlocks the price of them wasn't a lot cheaper than other options. However I was able to buy them from Banzai Hobby which saved a lot in postage costs (using their SAP option) so I guess overall they probably were cheaper.....

...I also liked the look of them on 860Crawlers Land Cruiser; however I opted for different beadlocks for price reasons....I may still upgrade them later.

Re: Upgrades

I see you got Pro-Line Flat Irons. Nice!!!

It's so great to read these threads, that people are still buying these trucks (new or used) and upgrading them. You guys have inspired me to get off my worthless butt and get cracking on Project Mogfather (again). With me, it's the same story as a lot of us on here - trying to balance kids and too many RC projects! Last week I placed an order to asiatees to get the final odds and ends I needed. The body is trimmed, but I'm sanding away now.

Not meaning to highjack the thread - just saying it's real motivation to read about people working on their CR01s and gettin' it done! Awesome.

Re: Upgrades

Yes...I have a continual battle with the hub caps. I put them on straight and next time I drive and park they are upside down again.......!!

Re: Upgrades

In all seriousness, great to see all the renewed activity on these CR01s. Has me motivated to start my second as soon as I finish a few other projects. You'll love those Flat Irons!

Re: Upgrades

new2rocks....regarding the hubcaps; I think the additional weight would seriously affect my speed. With only 36hp + a little extra from dual carbs and some work to the heads I think the CR-01 is more powerful....

Looking forward to getting the CR-01 back up and running again but I do have very little time over the next few weeks!

Re: Upgrades

^ Lol. My first car was a Subaru station wagon with 65 HP. Could do 85 flat out with no headwind, level ground, and about 3 miles of open road to get up to speed. Probably cost less than each one of those hubcaps. :)

Re: Upgrades

Or Mooneye smooth hub caps!

Re: Upgrades

Easy answer to the hub cap issue...I'll get rid of them and run Porsche 356 wheels....now onto the CR-01

Re: Upgrades

That looks great. I am sooo torn on beadlocks right now I took a break from looking. I am very interested in your opinion once you get them running

Re: Upgrades

These flat irons with alu wheels really look the business and the performance you get from those flat irons are quite good, even a bit underrated.

Re: Upgrades

Too many other projects (house and still the VeeDub) to complete this at the moment. Will post more when I have made more progress; so far two wheels and the Rc4wd straight axle conversion but still not yet running.
