Default First outing of a newly built stock CR-01 green FJ

This is the first outing of a newly built stock CR-01 Toyota FJ.

Both front and rear diffs are locked. The turning radius turned out to be satisfactory even without rear steering.

I had the crunchy diff phenomenon and loosened the axle housing bolts a little to make them smoother - and only after that I read that the locking pin will cause crunchiness if it is tightened all the way. I was too lazy to unscrew the locking pin and tighten the axle housing bolts so let us see how the diffs survive with the housing bolts not tightened all the way.

Now on to the photo cavalcade...

And I had the usual help building the car.

Default Re: First outing of a newly built stock CR-01 green FJ

Second trip, this time including a long section on beach rocks. Very lucky to have all these tracks around the house, lots of superb trails accessible practically from the home door.

The speed of the stock CR-01 is just right was this type of driving, on technical single track. It is slow enough to maneuver around and over obstacles and still fast enough to keep pace when I walk briskly on flat sections.

The reverse is a bit too aggressive, downright jumpy so I need to check the options on my remote control and the speed controller.

When building the car I considered leaving the stabilizers out but I am now very happy that I installed them as per instructions. The car has no problems flexing and yet it is stable enough for fast driving.

Because of the locked front differential I have to keep it off pavement as it must be really painful for the driveline when the front wheels rotate at very different rates when turning.

Some jungle like crawling was to be had, too.
