| Newbie to crawling CR-01 on the way
Hi, and hello from not so sunny- rather wintery Surrey UK. I've been a long term tamiya fan, started as a kid with a Subaru brat and delved into drifting for a little while with a highly modified DF-03ra chassis. My Son wants a CR-01 for Christmas so I'll help him with the build but I couldn't help myself and I've bought one too - a second hand one that needs a little love but I'm sure I can get it up and running. This brings me to my first question, I need a replacement rear prop shaft and will get the Carbon steel hop up but at this stage I'm not sure if this is the 85mm or 95mm variant? Any ideas? |

Congrats. Share some pictures of your truck. Also share pictures when you help your son build his. These things are fun trucks because they're different.

Thanks guys, much appreciated. As it's a Christmas present the photos are a way off yet but I've got some cool things planned that I'll get photos up for |

So..... I've been watching all of matteo's rc movies on YouTube - I'm sure you're all familiar. I'm now brimming with ideas on upgrades and have a few custom bodyshell ideas. My sons rock socker kit is all wrapped up and ready for Christmas, I can't wait - LOL. My used cr-01 should be with me on Monday, so I've got a full strip down planned for one of the days next week. Bought a few bits and bobs so I'll add the pics when they arrive.

Got a little experiment going on. Had a 1/12 scale shell and an axial honcho rear end lying around so I started piecing things together. Long way to go yet tho.... |

I've got a lot further now, had to trim a fair bit off in the corners for clearance but I'm seriously liking this! I'm not sure on colour, thinking either camel yellow or ps-3 blue. I think the yellow and black theme will be better - any suggestions? Also much preferring the size of the standard cr-01 kit wheels but I know performance wise they leave a lot to be desired - outside tyre diameter is 122mm does anyone know of a decent 2.2 tyre that is maximum 120mm? I fitted some 1.9's but it looks hideous!!! Anyway here's the progress pics: Will be concentrating on the finer detail now.... |

Nearly finished, just need to hook the lights up and get an interior sorted. Amazing what a bit of colour can do! |

Indeed - that thing's a beast! On a side note, Proline Hammers or 2.2 Flat Irons and Losi Rock Beasts or Claws are the tire dimension you are looking for. All good tires. I believe that they are all out of production at this point, but can still be found on Ebay and also pop up used from time to time. Tamiya's own cliff Climbers are an improvement, but not exactly great tires. |

Thanks oSRC, think I'm going to get some flat irons. I've got some voodoo klr's coming in 1.9 and I've been told these are a similar dimension so may wait for them to arrive before ordering. My scx has rock beasts fitted and it was kicking the Tamiyas ass today. Those vice crawlers are really bad tyres! |
