Default ESC, motor, and important upgrade questions

Hey everyone. It’s been about 8 years but I have decided to get back into RC. I purchased a few Tamiya kits including a CR01 and a CC01!

First few questions about the CR are what ESC and motors you are all running? This is one of the few kits I’ve bought where the kit did not include a ESC and being new to crawling I am looking for recommendations.

I’m also looking for insight on what you all think are the most important upgrades to do to a CR01 while building!

Thanks,

Jon

If I was building my CR-01 kit at this time I'd get a HobbyWing WP 1080 ESC and a closed can 35T motor.

Besides that, new tires are a must-have IMO. The stock tires are very hard rubber and they won't perform well at all. After that I'd say build it stock, run it, and then see what you want to change. I haven't run mine enough to find any real weak spots.

Which motor and tires do you recommend?

Either of these are a good place to start and should give you similar performance.

Gool RC 35T: https://www.ebay.com/itm/GoolRC-540-...4AAOSwCkZZOfgP

Or Holmes Hobbies 35T: https://www.ebay.com/itm/HHBTMSPT35-...EAAOSwiIxaD3dk
