Default Szczerba’s CR-01 Build (#62) Arctic Truck

Got a CR-01 in a partial trade with some upgrade parts sometime last year. Tired of looking at it on the shelf so am building it up with things around the garage.
So far, I have just had to buy 3mm screws and driveshafts.
Painted chassis rails and set wheelbase to 11”.
Going with 4WS.
Flipped the trans to run the motor towards the front.

Default Szczerba’s CR-01 Build

Installed the super nice Tamiya option shocks, spare printed wheels, JC Rangers tires.
Metal work. Just making it up.

Nice....though not such a great performer, it's always been a cool platform to tinker with.

A CR-01 build in 2020?! Very cool!

I had a ton of fun with my build which I dumped a ton of money into in the form of bling. The actual setup is still very stock though. I ran it twice and then never touched it again, sadly.

I'll be watching to see where this one goes.

Interesting. Subscribed to see where this is going. Ironically, Tamiya has been getting a lot of play time around the CI shop lately in the form of Dancing Riders, TT-02 Rally Car, and a M06 on road.

Depends on the type of performance wanted. Haha. This won’t be a crazy crawler but will do ok for the build theme.

I got this rig partially assembled in a partial trade sometime last year. The option Tamiya shocks are butter smooth but the slop in the cantilevered setup mucks it back up. Haha. No biggie.

It will be interesting for sure. Don’t think I have seen the body I am using , used in the way I am.
I had a build idea in my head for a while and this chassis was just sitting on the shelf. It won’t be 100% what I wanted to build but close enough to get it out of my head and onto another build I already am thinking about.

More welding and styrene work mostly done. I am out of large 0.060 black styrene, so I had to make do with what I had around. In my usual fashion not many things are square or straight but I am not building an airplane, so it's good enough.
Front of the rig has the stock Tamiya bumper. Too cool not to keep.

I got my CR-01 kit with a lot of parts. Apparently, the guy was going to build it with a bunch of upgrades and then he just decided not to build it at all. I did get the Tamiya option shocks, but I went with the 3Racing shocks instead because they fit my color scheme. At least you are keeping the cantilevers! A CR-01 without the cantilever suspension just isn't a CR-01 to me.

I love the look of this build so far. Looks beefy!

That is the same way I got this rig, even came with an unpainted Bronco body.

Yeah, the Ranger tires have that look.

That is a great guess and build idea. This one won't be that flavor though.

The tires aren't "correct" but it looks kinda like a Sherp vehicle to me.

I love your scale garage BTW.

Getting warmer! I could make some Sherp paddles, as I have two sets of monster truck slicks.
A little more fabrication and I'll be posting body on pictures.

Thanks, I built the garage like 8 years ago or so. Still as messy as my real one.

Hacked up a Kyosho Blizzard body.

Trailer build to come. Trailer axle is two ax10 pumpkin halves.
Cut and shut an axial battery tray for rear luggage rack.

I agree. Great use of a Blizzard body. It looks very cool and ski resort friendly. Just add snow bunnies.

I had the these wheels/tires and the CR-01 truck just sitting on the shelf. Somehow I started searching for blizzards and the mash was created. I got lucky and scored this body for cheap on eBay. Still some minor work to do and build the trailer.

Trailer rough draft

Scored this Kyosho Blizzard DX (1982?) for a good deal too. Works.
