You don't have too. It will lower your chassis a little if you leave them alone, but if you like that height, you will need to lengthen them a little. It's good that you are getting new shocks too. The stock Max Climber ones are too weak. | |

Alright, yes i know it another post, but i just got to upload some pics. WOOOHOOOO shes starting to come together. Update: THe metal rod which will be used to brace my lower links were cut into 3cm sections and they are going to a friend today to get drilled out so the Threaded rod will go through it. Will keep you up to date Got body on friday (as a bday present) and started spraying on saturday. Took my time with light coats and i think the colour came spot on! Used Tamiya paints: Translucent Silver Gunmetal Black Sprayed 2 light coats of silver first then covered using gunmetal 2-3 coats. then backed using black 1 coat Used carpet knife (forgot my blades at home) and cut the protective film around the arches and front bumper and rollcage. Sprayed black on outside of body so give Mat effect. Hope you like (actually i dont care, coz i like) Keep in mind, body not mounted yet, because I dont know how to... |

This is really coming together... you should keep a tally of avg. cost of the pieces, along with links (for a true noob helping build). to mount the body you will either need to buy new body posts and mount out the sides, or modify the existing ones to go taller. again, great work! |

THanx man Well i Measured, the botton of the stock chassis is about 2.5 inches off the ground with the dampers moverd backwards. Looking to get new chassis and gearbox... Two things: 1. What body posts can i buy? or how do i modify existing body mounts? anyone got a link to this? 2. How to attach the traxxas yokes to the centre diff to fit the sliders? its already fitted to the axle side, but i dont know how to fit it to the diff in the centre. Now to your request of cost. Rand/Dollar im using 8 rands to 1 dollar Stock TLT: $80 plus $38 shipping = $118 Arrow Shaft for 4 links: Free (stolen from brother) 4-40 Threaded Rod: $1 x 5 = $5 Tamiya 50808 Wheel Axles: $10 x2 = $20 Traxxas 4628x Metal Yokes: $28 Traxxas 1951 Slider Shafts: $6/7 Traxxas 5453 Plastic Yokes: $3.49 plus $6 Shipping = $9.49 JunFac Mudrock Beadlock Wheels: $14.9 x2 plus $9 Shipping = $38.80 Porline Masher 2000 M3 Tyres: About $40 Land Rover Body (HPI): Free and Bday present but normally: $45 Paint (3 cans of tamiya): $22.50 Hope this helps, will update or try to at least to as I go along. |

I fitted the steel rod reinforcement to my lower links last night and glued them in. But still everytime I press down on the car and stretch the suspension the threaded rod jumps out of the ball joint, normally the one on the axle's side. Any offers, coz iim getting fed up. and i cut my fingers to shreds with a drill trying to drill new holes for the body posts. |

I'm new to the whole RC world, but have been interested in it for a while. I've been spending most of my time on real crawlin... I must say this thread is FANTASTIC!!!! I've been jumping all over the place as to how to build up a crawler.... This is the best thread I've read that explains it!! Thanks for all your work in writing up your build! BTW, GREAT WORK!!! Beautiful rig. LOVE the Defender; looks like my old one a little. Cheers, Jabber |

Do you have measurements of where you placed the tensioner exactly? It seems like a good idea and I'd like to try it myself, but I can't tell where to place a tensioner exactly from the picture. Thanks

I really like the look of the body with the black wheels. I would suggest the Ax-10 tranny, cheap and very reliable. Also, what wheelbase is the rig ?? |

Thanx guys. I wantd to give up on this build as the driveshaft and 4 links are making me mad! Wheelbase is frm axle to axle is 31cm or 12.4inches. Il be mounting the body soon, i hope. The driveshafts i wil have to mod my diffoudrives to fit it. The tensioner u wil hav to do by feel. Sory i didnt measure but its two bearings and a metal roller and spaced mine with small nuts, but i dremeld the other side aswel to make the tensioner more stable and straight. Hope this helps. |
