Question pinion slop???

was screwing around with my crawler today and realized that if i push or pull the rear driveshaft the pinion gear will pull in and out. how bad is this and how can i fix it? my rear end is locked with jbweld i think(got the crawler used). i was thinking i could shim it. would this fix the problem and what parts do i need? i tried searching but i couldnt find a sure fix. thanks

Mine seem to work fine but I would say you could probably tell whether the ring needs to come over or the pinion needs to come back.

I put one of the Traxxas Fiber Washers 5x8mm part #1985 behind the pinion gear before I put it through the gearbox bearings. I ran a stock R/P with just the shim and grease for nearly a year (about 80 hours of runtime) without fail.

X2,That will also help center the pinon gear on the diff gear

i just put one of the traxxas shims in there but the gears are loud because there is almost no grease in there. what types of grease is best? from searching i came to think of white lithium...is that true???

Exactly. Probably why mine lasted so long...

I use the white lithium grease on everything. I use the stuff that isn't quite so sticky (like the high temp stuff). If I can find the tube, I will write down the name.
