I have never had a chassis that was not made with my own two hands, so I figured it was time. I looked around, and I like the low slung aspect of the BlackJack, so that's what I bought. Following are pics of the build, as well as mods made to the chassis as I went. You get a nice thin skid, two sides plates a 4 screws. I didn't like the sharp edges of the plates, so I just smoothed them out with some light filing. Here it is, assembled as designed. I drilled and countersunk the holes for the R2 using a slick aluminum template I made up. Here is the final state of the chassis after modding it to fit the R2D the way I wanted it. The cross supports are not part of the kit, but I felt some extra support at the extremeties. They are actually spare spacers I had from one of Double J's Trailbeater chassis's, they were a perfect fit as well. The fit is extremely tight, I had to go as far as grinding down a wire tab on the motor to get the paper thin clearance I needed between the endbell and the chassis, but it's perfect now. Here is my rear linkage setup. I am running Traxxas Big Bores. At this point, there are no internal springs. While I was into it, I tore the R2D down and replaced the shoft fork bushings with these sweet new Teflon ones. VERY NICE parts. I can now engage and disengage on the fly with zero problems. Lots of belly clearance, especially for a droop rig. All together after it's maiden run. Some WARCRC love... More to follow... |

Rig looks nice! But I'm kinda confused as too why the 40% is to the rear and 60% to the front? It seems that all the weight is over the back... Maybe i'm missing something....?

The weight of the chassis may be more towards the rear, but you can get the bias back by adding weight in the rims or on the front axle. I set mine up this way as I like the way the front does most of the work, and the rear just follows right along. I really like the way mine crawls set up like that. How's it working for you Jer? I wasn't able to get to the comp over there yesterday.:-( | |

Tanis is right! I did it because his was set up that way. It worked well, I am pretty happy with the chassis!
