| Another K2-5!! Griz's 1.9 Scale Competition Rig
Well, those silly guys at Reign sent me a K2-5 and I got it in the mail a few weeks ago. I spent alot of time since then thinking how I was going to build this up. After having built a K2-4L, I know just how well the Reign design works, it drives fantastic, and I'm 100% positive that if you built the K2-5 according to the build documents it would be just as great if not better. The "five" is a bit narrower and has a shorter overall height for better belly clearance on those 1.9 builds. With that said I figured I'd kick this thing up a notch. I may get thrown from the "Reign train" for this but it'll be worth it. I'm gonna see just how crazy we can get with the "five". This rig will not be an "all out" scaler, this thing will be designed to win scale competitions as it's primary goal with some scale things taking a back seat to function. It will however be cool. |

I decided to stick with the Traxxas #5318 Revo pushrods as lower links. I order a set of the 5319's but I think the 12" wheelbase will work out much better for a 1.9. The extra 1/2" you get from the 5319's might work great on a 2.2 rig. Pics 1 & 2) I found that if you use a 3mm flat washer and a Traxxas #1942 rod end ball, you get a perfect size spacer with the Revo pushrod end. I knew there was a reason I saved all those broken rods ends from running my super all these years. I spent forever trying to figue out how to mount my shocks. Running an 87mm shock is tough but I came up with a good solution. I wanted the longer shock so that we would have big articulation on this thing. The shocks are the HPI Super Shock Set, part number A723. These are my new favorite shocks, they are an emulsion shock, they have not leaked on me yet, they are super smooth, and they have a ball end in the shock cap!!! You have to modify the cap to get better action out of it, I'll show that later. Pic 3) I found that the best way to mount the shocks was inside of the lower link. This meant I could not use the standard Reign link setup so I had to come up with something else. I used a Dubro 1/8" thick plastic spacer to keep the spring out of the link bracket. Pic 4) Next I made an upper link/servo mount by copying one of the Bender style ones I had and the stock TLT mount. I also angle cut the back of it to give clearance for the shocks. Pic 5) To my amazement, a set of Jato turnbuckles fit just right for upper links. These are actually the same links that were on Peanut the SW2ber. I had to steal the axles off him for this build. Pics 6-9) I cut out some upper shock mounts out of 0.060" thick steel and bent them to shape. Some leftover Losi shock spacers gave me a pretty good mounting position. A Hitec 5995Tg from Holmes Hobbies should have enough torque to the the little 1.9 tires I think. The link angle look really good to me. Last edited by Grizzly4x4; 04-15-2008 at 01:26 AM. |

You said a mouthful! Not like I have any time...but I need to have a 1.9 for Montana and Kaetwo's timing was spot on. Gonna be some tube work coming up before too long. Can you say back half truggy? | |

| The Chevy Killer!!!
So how about some background. I was inspired by a couple Top Truck Challenge rigs on this build. (Imagine that ) I was inspired by Sam Collins' F250. I just love the old school Ford body and his 545ci 600hp Ford motor. This thing is a beast and I watched him hammer it in the video. However, I also love Donald Hadden's S10, Pimpin Ain't Easy. The sweet cut of the body, the cool front axle stretch, and another big motor made it one of my favorites from the first time I saw it. But what to do, I can only build one rig for now? Well, I decided to incorporate ideas from both. his things gonna have an old Ford body, big huge horsepower, a front axle stretch, big fender cutouts, and tube work in the back half. This build is for you exesivefive . Pic 1) Here's how the chassis will sit with the 1.9 Moabs. The rear suspension is just for mockup, I'm not sure what I'm going to do there yet. Pic 2) Gotta love the Createacrawler 1.9 SWAT-8 wheels!! I had to have them and they are worth getting in trouble from the wife. Pics 3-5) Here's the body mocked up. Pay no attention to the 2.2 Claws, i have not finished my other two 1.9 Moabs yet. My very first truck I bought when I was 16 was a 1967 Ford F250, very similar body style to the Proline. I hadn't planned on naming this build but when I popped the body on it reminded me of the name of my first truck, Pepe. So this one is Pepe The Little Mule. Enjoy, more to come. | Thanks guys! So far I'm happy with the shocks. It looks like I'm gonna be able to get really good articulation. In fact I may limit the up travel so that I don't have to cut out any more of the grill.

Nice start Chris! I am starting to really like the K2-5's. I think the K2-4 was the perfect chassis but it is hard to build around. Love the Ford body. Any idea on color yet? |

| It'll be a basic red painted on the outside of the body. I want it to be very utilitarian like Sam Collins' rig.

Build looks great so far Griz! Don't see a whole lot of Ford builds (besides Broncos and Hi-Lifts). Good to to see something a little different.

Thanks for getting rid of that scary emoticon. Thanks crashfab, are you the one I hear about on Pirate? I hope it turns out to be Big Pimpin in the end. I made a set of 1.9 Mashers last night for the rear and took pics at lunch. However, I can't find a cable to upload them. I'll have to wait till tonite. I was thinking how guys say the Mashers are better in mud, and alot of the guys in the south run Boggers in the rear. I don't know if there will be alot of mud in Montana but I'll bet there will be some, so maybe the Mashers on the rear will work better. We'll see I guess.
