| My New Crawler (lots-o-pix)
Well this is my first attempt at building a crawler, since I got my TLT I've been coming here checking out all the info & building up my rig :-P It's now on it's 3rd stage. first stage was like thefordmccord's second stage was kinda like a weight placement & refinement of the truck w/ stock chassis plates. This is really good for those that don't have the $$ or fab skills to make thier own. Didn't really have anything to compare it to, but I think it is a fairly good set-up & easy to make. Just drill 4 holes for the tranny & cut about 1" off the bottom of the chassis, that's it! For the Third stage I decided to make my own chassis I used what I found at work, 1/8" alum. diamond plate & 1/16" stainless steel. The side plates are alum. & the servo & tranny mounts are SS. It's a lay down tranny design. I forget which links I used but I know some were Revo push rods. 3 sets, 1 for the drag links & 2 for the links. it's kinda set up like a 60/40 , longer in the rear. Also tried brushless motor instead of the lathe & super rooster thanks to microgoat. It is a AXI outrunner motor, I had a Mamba BL for my 18T that I wasn't using so I used the esc. the BL & the mamba 25 are more than half the weight of the lathe & SR. really helps the COG. Well on to the pix...... just to compare motor size Still needs a skid plate, gonna try some cutting board or something similar. I know most of you will know what parts I am using so I'll save myself some time, for those that don't just ask. Hope you guys like my first rock crawler All coments welcome shaka brah Last edited by DISTURBIN' tha PEACE; 10-03-2005 at 04:21 AM. |

Whoah, I thought those car crushing pics were real at first! What did you use in the background for the lights and trees? Something from a model railroad set? That's sweet! Truck looks great BTW. |

The motor set-up is nice. I didn't get to do the ecs yet....I had to use another comp cause mine is an i-mac. It didn't recognize when the link was plugged in? Will try again on my bro's girrlfriends laptop later. right now it's set on no cutt off V.,low advance, max starting power, forward to reverse, & 100% rev power. seems fine now that I got the servos running off a 6v rx pack. Two 645mg's are too much for the mamba-25 but now w/ the rx pack it's just fine. you do need to be extra steady w/ the throttle. Gonna try it now I'll post some new pix in about an hour |

Boy do I love 4ws Got the rear servo back on & rewired so the servos are powered by a 6v rx pack. (see "outrunner brushless motor" in electronics) Now everything works fine. Took it out to my "PRCTC" (Personal Rock Crawling Test Course), everyone should have one! The truck performed very well compared to previous stages. Put the truck body back on. Here's the pics. Some neked shots.......... So far I really like il Thanx for looking |

That has to be nice having all that lava rock to crawl on. When my grandparents lived in Honolulu I would take my clod with me on trips and climb on Diamond Head. Its the best rc crawling I've ever done anywhere. Nice truck man. I never thought about using an outrunner in a truck. I should have-I use one in a plane. BTW how did you mount the outrunner in the pede case? What kind of KV rating does it have?

right around 1000 kv is about perfect for a crawler. you can always adjust for final speed with a cell or two though.

The motoe mounts w/ a mounting plate that AXI sells for this motor, it doesn't line up perfectly. the side w/ the slot you adjust the motor with had to be notched. kv=975 slow but lots of torque. Just stripped my idler gear yesterday. |
