My TLT is done, for the most part.

Well, I worked on it all night after I heard USPS had a problem with my chassis, so this is the Crawler I'm taking north:

Base: TLT-1
hassis: Stock
Tranny: Pede with 2.5 driveshafts.
ESC: Novak Rooster Reversible.
Transmitter: Fubtuba.
Reciever: Fubtuba 2 channel.
Motor: 55t Lathe. 12t spur, (something a little smaller than: ) 84t Spur
Shocks: Traxxas T-maxx
Tires: Masher 2k
Wheels: Narrowed HPI
Some weird Links...

Total Cost: About $200... But I got really good deals on everything and I had an ESC on hand...

I will get pics tomorrow after I figure a way to mount a 1/10 jeep body on the stock frame.

This thing is pretty cool... Little longer than I wanted, about 13 1/4", But hey, I got a crawler now :P I have a different way to mount the top links to the axle, I'll get pics of that too...

After I take pics, I'll mount all the electronics and hope everything performs well...

Problem!!!! or is it normal??

When I turn one axle in the air too hard, it grinds gears, then I set it down on the ground and push it at the same speed, and it's fine...

Will 08-09-2005 12:26 PM

Wierd...that is a problem. Take your diffs apart to see whats wrong.

Nova 08-09-2005 02:27 PM

Pictures!!

I appropriatly Named it the "Chameleon" as it blends into rocks pretty well.

MAN this thing is gonna be fun... I need help though; I tried fitting the stock tlt Spur 84t in with 2.5 Maxx drivelines and it wouldn't have any part of it... sooo.... I might have to rip this thing apart to get a new spur in, but HEY! at least I wont be bored lol.

Madkoifish 08-09-2005 02:58 PM

For that grinding thing open up the tranny and look at the pinion. It mmight need shimming to keep it in contact with the diff ring.
Doesnt make sence if it is a new axle but you gotta open the things to see whats going on anyhoo.

Nova 08-09-2005 03:21 PM

well... My front axle is tilted too much so the drive lines are almost a 35*... and it takes a GREAT number of force to click it, I'll just drive it till it's broke!

Nova 08-09-2005 07:56 PM

Update:

Massive Torque twist :'( soooo I put shock spacers on the springs.

The front end barely turned, the gears were grinding, soooo I'm gonna shim the pinion....

This thing is awesome, wish I had a camara that took video :'(

what do you mean by weird links, they worked on my clod, what paint did you use on the body. looks cool.

Nova 08-09-2005 10:58 PM

Thanks Magic, whens that servo getting in cuz mine just SUCKS!! I hope I get it before Friday... (The paint is some weird stuff that's used to make stone things look like granite... ACE hardware has them for $7/can)

They are weird to me cuz I've never seen or used them before... Man these things break a lot! I just finshed taking my rear axle apart, putting shims in, and putting it back together... there was a LITTLE bit of metal shavings, but not enough to do anything...

I dont see how Toyo's Bulu can be that fast! I cram the throtle and only go about 2-3 MPH... I'm using: Lathe 55t Motor, 13t 48p Pin, 74t 48p spur....

There is also a problem with reversing... If I'm about to roll, I can't save myself cuz I dont have a lot of reverse tire spin...

Madkoifish 08-10-2005 05:12 PM

I think toyo and that crew run those mico NIMH batts. Not sure if they are 7cel or not but I got a cheapo NICAD pack with 8 cels and they cause the lathe to attempt to flip my truck. I think Ill break these down and run 6 cels but they are almost 1/2 the weight.

Nova 08-10-2005 11:01 PM

Yea... I got a 6 cell 33amp NiMh batt...
(BUT I have MASSIVE torque)

I took this out today and played at some peoples house I'm working for.
I have some problems:

I need BB's in the fronts.
I need more center ground clearance...

And I was going down a lot of stairs and didn't give enough throtle and rolled the truck to the bottom, the left RWS lockout kinda stripped, but nothing I couldn't fix... My center of gravity is a little on the high side cuz how my battery is, it's in the top in front... WHEEL WEIGHT!!!

DISTURBIN' tha PEACE 08-11-2005 03:26 AM

mount your battery like this

Nova 08-11-2005 03:49 AM

I'ma fill the tires, move some links, and put some runs on it for a while... I like the location really.

I think my TLT has a 18T pinoin and a 90T spur and 8 cell battery pack....

Yours 74/13 = 5.69 on 7.2 V
Mine 90/18 = 5.00 on 9.6 V

So mine is 5.69/5.00 * 9.6/7.2 = ~50% faster... so yes, you can make them go faster even with a Lathe motor.

Nova 08-12-2005 12:45 AM

See, this thing is weird. Today I haven't broken anything that took money from me, thats how it has always been with this dang TLT lol... It's always enough to shut ya down, but an easy fix...

I can take apart, fix, and reassembed the axles in about 10 mins, cuz I've done it so many times

Man, what am I doing working on my own trucks for? I'll just drop them off at your place. ;)

Nice rig, Toby.
You take on that hill in you're back yard yet?

Nova 08-12-2005 12:41 PM

Lol.... I knew you were human, you forgot your email and crap. ;-)

I haven't taken on the hill really, cuz as soon as I get to it, my battery is really low...

I'm about to leave to Washinton in like 30 mins, I just hope I have all the stuff I need to fix myself if (err... When) I break.

ReppRacing 08-12-2005 01:42 PM

Heheh. I don't want everyone and they're brother emailing me you know. :p

Have yourself a great trip man. Take it easy.

Nova 08-17-2005 02:53 PM

New setup due Tuesday, it should be ready to run by the 29th (depends on Tower shipment)

Just a Heads up, one of the only recondnizable things will be the body...

Stay Tuned!
