1.9 class J2-TT TLT, spare parts build.
 

i started on this the night the 1.9 class was announced, i started digging through the spare parts boxes and came up with almost everything needed to build a 1.9 class rig. i narrowed a J2-TT chassis down to 2", cut my own skid for it and cut down the stock cross members. i cut out one side of the chassis for the motor to hang out a little, and drilled new shock mounts and upper link mounts for the front. im using 3Racing mini LST shocks with TLT rod ends on them to lengthen them a bit. just a spare 645mg will do the steering as it wont take much to turn the tires on this little thing.

i was gonna use traxxas slash turnbuckles for lower links, but then i found that stock TLT parts will work. and they're free! it took a while to get the 4 link right but now it works the way i want it to. it doesn't articulate much, only about 2 7/8" but it doesn't really need to in my opinion. the wheels and tires on it are not what will be used as they set the width at 8 3/8". so far i have spent NO money on this. i'll end up with 2s lipo batteries in it and possible a tekin FXR or micro mamba for an ESC and if i win this auction on ebay it'll be spektrum as well.

How/where did you mount the upper links on the axles?

that looks good scott, i'm thinking about doing the same thing with my sw3 and tlt axles.

the front uppers mount to the underside of the servo mounting plate, right up next to the axle case. the front mount used to be a fat-rock servo/link plate that stands the servo up vertically. i cut the top half off and drilled to lay the servo down.

i need a body but don't really know whats out there. im thinking about getting a clear rc18t body.

Nice looking rig. What body will you run? Also, I've always had to run the longer stub axles and 1/4" spacers to run 1.9's on my TLT axles. How did you make it work? Wheel part #'s, knuckles, etc.

they're JP customs knuckles and hpi 6mm offset wheels. im gonna use 0mm offset wheels when i get the tires done. ill be running reduced m3 badlands.

excuse my ignorance in the offset dept, but will that make it wider or narrower? I've got some of those 6mm offset wheels, they don't have the outer bead which is why you are running the rock rings, correct?

I understand backspacing a lot better than this offest thing.

backspacing is the offset from the wheels mounting surface to the outer bead. and yes these wheels have no outer bead, that's why these have rings on them and the ones that i will use will have rings as well. so a 0mm offest wheel would be 100% backspacing.

Zero Offset - The plane of the hub mounting surface is even with the centerline of the wheel.

Offset is in relation to the centerline.

Backspacing is in relation to the inner lip of the wheel.

100% Backspacing would put the hub mounting surface all the way flush with the outer lip of the wheel. 0% would be flush with the inner lip of the wheel. Percentage isn't a correct measurement really...

Thats the way I knew it. Backspacing is a measurement. For example I run
15" x 8" wheels on my Jeep with 3.75" backspacing. Not sure what the offset would be. Then the question is is it positive offset or negative?

4 inches is the centerline of a 8 inch wheel. You're at only 3.75 inches backspacing, not even half way.

You're towards the brake side, which is a negative offset. And 5 millimeters is 0.25 inch.

Will a tlt body be to big for it Scott?

it would probably fit just fine, i just don't have any TLT bodies left.

funny how we had no use for them a few years ago. It looks awesome really. I've already considing cutting up my K2-5 to make a 1.9 Comp rig. Sorry about the questions. Mods feel free to delete the posts. Though they are tech.
