Default Easy Losi slider conversion

I stumbled across this while trying to solve the slider issue with a Losi XXXT tranny. Cut two male pede shafts to the right lenght about 3/8 to 1/2". Then press them into the outdrives. They fit perfect, then you can drill a hole in each out drive and put a screw in to hold the slidders in the out drives. Anyone else done it this way? I`ll find out how well it works this weekend.

Well after a couple of weeks testing the tranny and sliders are working great, not one issue has surfaced yet. I drilled a hole all the way through and used a long retaining screw from a standard pede yoke. This setup is in Frkzilla`s truck and I must say I`m seriously considering dumping my pede for a Losi.

Doesnt this push the driveshafts further away from the center of the truck, thus creating a steeper driveshaft angle? This could cause binding on some truck, but of course will work with others.

I don't think they need to be that long. You could probably shorten them to eliminate the problem you mentioned.

He's talking about the angle of the u-joint. Shorting the shaft wont chang the u-joint angle.

I don't know how much more you can shorten the addition. The yokes coming out of the tranny are fairly long, so you would have to cut them down to shorten the Pede additions. By shortening the additions, you do actually change the angle ever so slightly. How much? Just do the trig and find out. You aren't talking much though, but it may be enough to cause issues for some.

Its only 1cm wider than a pede. You could grind off the ends of the losi diff yokes. I dont think unless your running a sub 10" tranny or running stupid ammounts of ridheight it will be of any issue. I think its they look silly long cause the trany case is so much narrower than a pede.

When first setting this tranny up I too thought there might be an issue with the length, but there isn`t. My truck with a pede has a steeper front shaft angle than Frkzilla`s truck with the Losi , both trucks have the same wheel base (12.5"), link setup, and ride height. The front links are 1 1/2" shorter than the rears, and the tranny is shoved as far forward in the chassis as possible with no front shaft binding. The output gear in the Losi is a smaller OD than the pede and exits the case lower. And as Madkoifish stated some of that persived length is an illusion due to case size, the yokes realy arent that much farther apart than the pedes when you have them side by side. And yes if you feel the need you could trim some of the lenght off, but I really don`t think it would be a real issue for most .

Here are some pics of the tranny in the truck. It's still a work in progress and it's my first crawler. I've got a new micro reciever on the way and I still need to clean up the wiring. Yes the tranny is tilted a little for clearance.

We just used a set of hand drlls and went really slow. Use the smallest bit you got and just step it up one size at a time.

that is a great idea! This has made me really consider using a losi or stealth tranny. The issue of driveshafts was the only reason why i used the pede tranny. Thanks for this tip!

Drilling some lube and a new bit works, stepping up from larer bits is correct. I ran my press slow and had at it. then taped it for 4-40 set screws.

my drill press is set at its slowest speed, 640 or sumpin like that. it still is a little bit too fast so the only other option is to use the dewalt but then the stability isnt there. thats my dilemma anyway
