| DMG Nemesis Comp Build
Well, a local 2.2 indoor winter series has convinced me to fold, and finally build up my first ever shafty. I was originally going to run a RC4WD Rock Rider frame I had.......... But, I decided to go a bit of a different route instead. A few PM's back and forth to Death Metal Garage, and the plans had been set for building up a variation of his Nemesis chassis design. The chassis was completed and shipped VERY quickly, and showed up well packaged and looking like a million bucks. Thanks Jerry! And so it begins................. |

Axle choice seems to be a hotly debated topic these days, with Axial AX10's being the obvious choice. Bergs are slowly starting to dominate the local scene and competitions, and the new breed of worm-gear rigs is all the talk. With all that said, I like to walk a bit of a different path, and will always have a soft spot for all things Tamiya. As such, the DMG becomes a TLT based rig. Started off with some new axle housings: Then a quick shave: From there, went on to add some of the obvious accessories..... Rear axle lockouts: Clocked front axle C's: High clearance knuckles: Aluminum servo plates and upper link mounts: But it all together with a set of MIP CVD's, and it starts to look the part. The rear: And the front: Last edited by bRIBEGuy; 12-07-2008 at 09:50 AM. |

Rear axle went together without a hitch. Front axle was a nightmare. :( Firstly, the CVD's I recieved had a faulty bearing, and the inner race broke into two piece as soon as I picked it up and slid it onto the axle! In 20 years of RC, I don't think I've EVER seen this happen. The main annoyance is that the bearing is not an easy size to come by. Uhg................ Luckily RCP Crawlers came to the rescue........... Second issue, was that the knuckles and the clocked C's didn't mate together well. The binded so much, that turning was pretty much impossible. I ended up having to grind a bit off the knuckles off, and bend out the C's a hair just so they could rotate/turn freely. But, now they're together, and things can move forward again..... |

And so begins my first problem................... See, I had the chassis build around the RC4WD R2-D tranny, and sure enough the units drops in without incident. The dig shift mechanism however............well, that's a different story. Turns out the shift linkage hits the rear electronics tray in the "Engaged" position. As such, it cant move into the freewheel or locked positions. ARG! I decided to mock up the axles, only to discover my lower links are to long. :( Quite the day, huh? So, out came the hacksaw, drill, and dremel, and just like that, each of the high clearance delrin lower links are 1/4" shorter. |

| you should try to mount the shifter servo on the under side of the ESC porch. i do on all my rigs & makes for better shifting ,puts everything in-line with the shifter rod on the tyranny. looks good zORLAc |

I though of trying something like that, but I kinda want to keep the weight of the servo up front. I think if I lower the linkage, angle it, and use a different screw head it might just clear. Hopefully tonight I can play around with it a bit and find out. | |

I think you are actually at the north pole and not in Canada. A buddy of mine lives in Great Falls MT and tomorrows high is -15. good freakin night thats cold!!! Anyway Im glad you have a sense of humor I am trying to order a DCR chassis from Jerry but he seems to have disappeared for a few days. I am excited to get my own build going but in the mean time I just have other peeps builds to look at. Yours is the most interesting because it is a DMG. I am unemployed and board to death! and I have way to much free time to spend with the wife. so please, please help me by posting constantly!!! Thanks |

Well, a wee bit more progress has been made. Revo ball links have been threaded onto the Delrin links, and they have been mounted up to the DMG White Delrin skid. The skid looks pretty "Hack" compared to the quality of the chassis, but hey, its a skid, who cares, right? |

Managed to get the dig-shift linkage to fit. Clearance is tight, but it clears the electronics shelf now. Dig-Shift duties will be controlled by a Hitec 645MG servo. Overkill? Yes. But it's what I had laying around. I'm hoping to be able to get the upper links set-up today, and maybe the drive shafts as well. |

Well, I finished up the upper links today and unfortunately, ran into a real issue with the chassis. :( Looks like the alignment of the frame is out of wack. With both upper and both lower links measuring up properly, the front axle sits off center by roughly 1/4"! [enter swearing here] I wish there was some easy way to fix this, but it looks like I'll have to run one upper link significantly longer then the other. Grrrrrrrr....................... |
