My imagination. I made it out of sheet styrene from scratch.

Looks real good. What tranny are you using, and where do the batteries go?

looks nice but in my opinion the belly hangs waaaay waaaaaay too low. you should have made the tranny sit inside of the tube frame and then made a nice low profile skid plate.

Looks killer, but is that copper water line? If it is, don't dump it over very hard. That stuff will bend like no other. Kick butt looking truck anyway.

i know that the tranny is a davkin original, and the truck gets run strong. and if the links were weak he would have them replaced. and he runs gp1100 2/3a cells.

but very, very cool project. you and kidwithcrayons keep busting out some sicker and sicker chassises. can you get a vid of it on the rocks as well??

Well, I originally had a long post with responses to everyone's comments but IE locked up on me and I lost it, and I don't feel like typing it all again, so here are just the promised Moab photos;

Your truck looks absolutely insane and so scale on those rocks. When are you going to send pics to RC Driver for your free subscription?

i run stock tlt steering links and have taken some pretty nasty falls and have beat them on the rocks several times too with no problems. Lighter is better eh? I always underbuild and if it breaks i rebuild (maybe a bit stronger). That way i know how light i can go without completely giving up durability. But anyways the point is that those skimpy steering links work just fine.

it does look scale but that belly hangs soo low... lol i bent my links in 10 seconds on the rocks when i had them all ***** like that... i mean come on its a little rod that makes your links soo strong.... i have actually made the front link one time when it wasnt sleeved bend in a u... i was going up this hill and the front left tire caught hard and smushed the link up in a U... lol it was great but what ever floats ur boat... at least sleve the lower link ... so ur front tires dont bend the link to make the tires lok like this /--\

I'll just respond to this one for now. The bottom of my truck is no lower than any other decent comp crawler. When sitting at rest the links are almost parallel to the ground which is what everybody is after. The trans case is a fully custom piece and is part of the frame on this truck, the only thing that doesn't bolt to it is the shocks. Moving the trans up raises the links and CG, now why in the world would I want to do that?

And I agree with C-Crawler, you have a steering link fetish. I've been using these links as is for several months and they look almost new and I don't have any of the issues you describe. Relocating them above the knuckles keeps them from rock damage.

And to prove how competitive this truck is, you only have to look at the results of the UTRCRC Moab comp. While the official results show me as finishing 10th that is due to one little stupid mistake that cost me 10 points. The 2nd course was a relatively low-technical, fast course. I screwed up and thought I had a straight shot at the final gate but just barely hit a marker. Without that little error I would have ended up tied for 4th.

BTW, that was tight competition! 10 points usually wouldn't be worth so many positions at a UTRCRC comp.

The truck could use some minor improvements. Mainly I still can' t climb quite as steep as I'd like to. I think I'm going to length the rear links a bit and maybe add a little weight to the front wheels. Other than that I think this little buggy works about as good as a 2.2 crawler can.

David
