My first tube chassis, so it's far from perfect. Let me know what you think, suggestions as always are welcome.

thats sooo cool!

I dig the halo style cage and the three link. That said, do you think the STINGER is big enough?

thaclodking 09-18-2005 01:31 PM

Your stinger can NEVER be big enough, haha!!

nd4spdbh 09-18-2005 02:08 PM

that thing is freakin SWEEETTTTT... nice rear setup. what dampeners r u using??

thaclodking 09-18-2005 03:58 PM

Tamiya dampers, off of the old rough rider chassis. I have spares and they looked fairly "scale", so I threw them on.

KidWithAcrayon 09-18-2005 05:05 PM

Dammmmmmmmmmmn!

BEEFY!

That thing looks sick man, I love it.

nd4spdbh 09-18-2005 05:09 PM

I disagree, I think the imex tires he has now look perfect and scale for the project. Nice work!

thaclodking 09-18-2005 06:22 PM

I like the swampers just for the scale appearance. There is a great "recipe" for softening up tires in the tire section if they need to be stickier. Nothing against the moabs, just like the look on this rig.

nd4spdbh 09-18-2005 06:29 PM

no they do look good on the rig... also i just ran my moabs for the first time and i am not really impressed... they were 2 soft and would fold under itself... i guess ill try it with foams...

Knytemare 09-18-2005 07:28 PM

Wow that thing is just friggin sweet!

muddzillatx 09-18-2005 08:01 PM

when you get done with it can i BORROW IT FOREVER

rckjeep 09-18-2005 09:01 PM

can you post a pic of the bender you are using.

RCMFMaxxMan 09-18-2005 09:37 PM

i think that tube chassis is sweet. very cool design. i would make the stinger a bit smaller though. i don't know if i like how it looks with it that long.

yeah i posted in your thread about narrowing ofna rims. i said you HAVE TO use foams but i guess you didn't see it or had them glued up before you saw that. But the moabs are such a great tire. but yeah they will suck bad without foams.

I dig it. 1/4" tubing is a nice change of pace with all the tubers being built out of 3/16" anymore.

that is a very sweet rig!! the only thing i would personally change is that big ol boner bar, other than that it looks freakin bad a$$!!!!

Stump 09-19-2005 02:10 PM

That is one sweet ride you are building. I would like to know why you run the springs seperate from the dampners? Is there an advantage? Or is it merely aesthetics?

Thanks for all the comments and compliments guys. I won't be able to jump on it again till this weekend, so I will post some more progress pics then. Still gotta get to the hobby shop and pick up a tranny, shafts, and some diamond-plate (the scale plastic) and find a way to make a fuel cell/receiver holder.

I've seen a few 1:1 rigs with the coil springs set up this way and kinda liked the way ithey looked, still trying to figure out the upper mounts. I plan on doing a panhard bar set-up on the front with the steering servo mounted in the chassis. It probably won't be the best performer but for my first one i'm happy with it.

Here's the picture of the bender I use, I got it from the MAC tool guy but I've seen the same one at various auto parts stores. You can use pretty much any bender though, although it helps to get a bender that is marked with angles.

Looks sweet! How much tubing did you use so far?
