I like the articulation and the suspension is firm but really buttery smooth. It's a bit lighter as well and it's upper weight so the COG is lower than the 2008 rig. I'm hoping the paint turns out hot. I will be using my standard paint scheme but take it a little higher this time. Got some new decaling coming from Mike at "Crawler Graphics" and Jay at "Straight Line Graphics" I'm hoping my 2009 "livery" looks as good as this chassis.

Here's a few shots of some completed work. I needed to massage some openings in the body for the shocks and I'm trying to not use any body posts or clips so I needed to improve the rear holding ability by using more "Velcro" to make a really positive connection. I've also located the electronics. Total poser. The electronics platforms, antenna wire tower and new rear clip are all made with "Lexan" to be light weight but strong. I used the heat gun and got it to conform the side of the VF dig and tranny I don't know if you can see it in these pictures. The equipment location were chosen to keep the wiring minimal and keep wire managed. All it needs now is the drive shafts, wiring and paint and it's time to do some testing. I feels light I'd say 6 lbs. the MSD "Top Gun" wheels have 6 oz. front and 4 oz. rear I'll have to get it on a scale soon. Last edited by Stormin2u; 03-10-2009 at 02:13 PM. |

Maybe you could screw a piece of lexan to the rear brace you have the velcro on now ,to give you more velcro area to hold the body. The brace could be turned to the same angle as the body.

I was pretty happy with the new Velcro contact patch. But yeah if it's a problem I'll have to put more Velcro to work. Are you ready for KC? |

Looking good Norm! I like how you cut that thing all mounted up. Gives it a real low profile stance to it. |

Nice build and great to see you are still rockin' the TLT's. Good luck on the velcro with the body. I have tried it a few times and every time it ultimately failed. The velcro wound up pulling the paint off the body and thus not working. If you can get the paint to adhere to the body strong enough to never come off, it should not be a problem. I have tried #0000 steel wool on the body before painting it, multiple paint coats, shoo goo, etc and the velcro never stuck long term in my experience. |

Hey Nova, yup I'm still running TLTs and a shafted rig too I must be stuck in the past. I might have to break down and by some Axial axles now that you can get different ring and pinion sets. Thanks for the heads up on the Velcro I think I'll leave my Velcro installed on "raw" lexan mask it off and paint around it I can work that into my finish schedule. The Velcro patch is strong enough to lift the truck off the ground as is. I really appreciate the input. Last edited by Stormin2u; 03-15-2009 at 08:36 PM. |

My son and I are still using TLT's on both our comp rigs. I am waiting on the Losi roller and then maybe I will be able to retire our comp TLT axles to be used in nice scalers.

I'm liking the ring and pinion sets from Axial I would love to overdrive the front wheels. The Losi is a rig I'm going to keep a eye on as well I'm partial to the "Shafties". My TLTs have spoiled me they only need occasional cleaning and lube and they have been truly bullet proof and have served me well I would however like to overdrive the front axle. Thanks for your help Nova. Last edited by Stormin2u; 03-17-2009 at 10:14 AM.

Here's the "Ares" chassis ready to "rock and roll" I'll give you a 360* tour. It has one body post and one clip but being that Greg looses clips I mounted a back up clip for him. The "stormin2u racing" graphics are by Mike at "Crawler Graphics" he does nice work. The nice thing about the FX-R is the ease of programing and I needed to see those buttons and lights. To avoid thermal shut downs I'm using a Castle BEC to power those voltage hungry servos. I have a good turning radius for TLT axles but I'm really liking the new Axial ring and pinion sets I may have to make the change. Until now they have been very good to us I like the switch that comes with the ESC and always try to put them in a handy place. I'm tying a different rear link attachment to help eliminate torque twist. Thats 360* and the "Ares" chassis is now ready for the rocks weighing in at 6.5 pounds with heavy wheels. The body is headed for the paint shop and the next time I post it will be 100%. Last edited by Stormin2u; 03-17-2009 at 03:12 PM. |
