Tube Project 10/10

There, I went and said it. Now I'm committed

...currently poking around the net for some 1:1 moon buggy-type layout ideas. 2.2 class comp rig. Have Pede trans ordered. 84Spur / 18Pinion?

The rest of the pics

i run an 87 16 in my pede... but with a lathe motor im sure you will have enough torque in just about n e gearing...

My crawl ratio is 39.54 : 1 - I have a good ammount of wheel spin but TONS of torque...

and with an 84 /18 it would be
33.94 : 1

It is a 14 % loss in torque but a 14 % gain in wheel spin ...

And if you wanted ULTRA torque... you would go with a 87 spurr and a 9 pinion with a gd 600 (2:1) for a crawl ratio of 140:1 :flipoff: a snail could woop the crap out of it in a drag race!!! The truck with a lathe motor would go a woppin' .83 MPH with a set of mashers.... OHHH YA

Nice rig tho im lovin that SUPER ULTRA HIGH MEGA NON EXISTANT GROUND CLEARANCE!!! :flipoff:

ohhh and thoes plastic 'bearings' trash them... invest in some real bearings...

Joe Mauma 09-27-2005 06:53 PM

I like your idea of mounting your axles, only thing is the blocks might get in the way when you try to dial in the link setup and shock placement.

Since you've seen mine crawl, I'm running 84t/12t with lathe motor.

Now if we could just get sean and kenn to build tlt's. To me, they're funner then the clod to drive.

pedesrule 09-27-2005 07:56 PM

i like the idea of mounting the axles during the chassis fabrication. I've seen it done many times in the 1:1 world with a chassis bench, i dont see why it never clicked to do the same here. keep us updated.

... Yhea, I knew you guys would be all over me about the ghetto plastic bearings. I do have bearings on the way

So what's the smallest pinion I can run with the 84 Spur on the Pede trans? Sounds like I need to gear down some... Will be running a 55t lathe motor.

...yhea, I like your gear ratio Jeff. I'll try the 12t pinion first and see how she goes.

I want to build it to UTRCRC spec, so I thought it would help to have it all layed out at 12-1/2" wheelbase while I try and braze up some tubage. Just need to get the trans here so I can bend the pan and go from there. Need some thin ss sheet too...

crawldaddy 09-28-2005 02:17 PM

I went for the moon buggy look. Mine has a 13 inch wheelbase. Ive heard that next years wheelbase will be 13 with utrcrc. I set up my tranny and axles as I built the frame. Then I had to make everything else fit. After getting it all in I made the frame look like I wanted it to. So far Im really happy with how it crawles. I ran long shocks on the front and short ones on the rear. That made it very stable. I also run a light torsion bar on the rear. That helps with body roll. http://img122.imageshack.us/my.php?...dsc000231ps.jpg

Nice Tim! Making a 2.2 tuber,.

Right now Jeff has the most competitive tubed tlt, lets see if Tim can beat it!

Any updates?

Joe Mauma 09-29-2005 12:24 AM

Brad's tuber is going to be pretty competitive in a few days. Redid his link mounts, got a SR and 645's.

We're going to have to allow rear steer in the 2.2 class in future comps. I run it, brad now does, and have 3 friends all building tlt's with rear steer.

Im running a 96/12 with pede trans, with a lathe motor on the way ;)
oooooober torque
oh yes
it already snail paces along.

Mon the scottish crawlers :)

Gimbal 09-29-2005 08:31 AM

UTRCRC is going to 4ws next season. However, they are talking about just Y-Harness steering NO CRAB steer...
My 2 hitec servos just came in  ...just waiting for the Pede diff gear from Champain IL so I can get going on this.

nd4spdbh 09-29-2005 02:24 PM

why dont they just lke have it to where we can use indy 4ws.... why is indy 4ws soo bad.... its easy to install and great to use

They feel that it keeps the class more competitive with no indi. I agree. Makes it more of a drivers comp than a best equipment comp ;-)

Progress...

What do you think? I was inspired by the Spidertrax rig. 2-3/4" center clearance.

KidWithAcrayon 10-01-2005 07:39 PM

Woah, I was going to make the same exact same chassis. I have some more pics of the spyder chassis if you need any, but from the looks of the drawing, you got it pretty good.

Well, good luck with the project. I'll be looking forward to updates. You might even inspire me to get my drawings back out and build her. :)
