Default TLT axles question

I was wondering if someone could give me a list of the things inside the axles of a tlt. Is there anywhere i can buy these things? Also could someone give me the length of the axles? I also need the lenght from here to here,

from here to here,

from here to here,

from here to here,

and the like how far out this thing goes.

Sorry for asking so many questions. I just got a athe for christmas and i am planning on trying to spin out some aluimnuim axle cases because i i have no money to buy a whole tlt and u just cant buy the axles and that is all i want. If u cant answer my question it isnt that big of a deal i juist wanted to try makein them.

P.S. Sorry rbgerrish for useing your pics its just they were the only good ones of tlt axles sorry! Plus i love that truck!

you could go about making axles, but some of the details would require a mill. The kit is only 125 bucks. Save up and use them. I had asked for all the part no's for axles only and It turned out that it cost much more than the kit.

You can actually buy a NEW TLT shipped for $99.00. Read some of the threads in this scale forum and you will find a link to the web site.

Yeah, you're not going to be able to buy the internals of the axles for cheaper than $99.

towers part no#

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...LXGHG0&P=Z
axle housings 4.19 x2 - one per axle

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...LXGM41&P=Z
stub axles 6.49 x2 - one per axle

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...LXWB85&P=Z
steering knucks 4.79 x2 - one per axle

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...LXGK41&P=Z
diff gears 4.29 x2 - one per axle

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...LXGHJ8&P=Z
diff cover 2.49 x2 - one per axle

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...LXGKG2&P=Z
axle 7.69 x2 - one per axle

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...LXGKG9&P=Z
suspension stays 2.79

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...LXGHP9&P=Z
pinion gear 4.79

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...LXGKH3&P=Z
joint cup 5.49

plus the screws and nuts to hold the axles together, the screws that hold the knuckles on, the drive hex/pin/wheel nuts, the steering links, and bearings (which you have to buy separately anyway), and any number of C-Clips/washers that are used throughout the axles to hold the bearings in, oh and the setscrew that holds the pinions on, and probably other stuff i forgot.

just go to towers and find the TLT kit and click replacement parts on the left. not only is it cheaper but you also get the instructions and the proper way to put it together and that one screw that you 'will' be missing thats necessary, that you forgot to order. theres also that joy of building a tamiya kit that i hear so much about but didnt notice while building mine, as i was too busy laughin at the japanese illustrations.

not to hijack this thread but how many 5x11mm bearings do you need to convert both axles?

boohoo, don't get too bummed out about machining custom housings yet! Even if you plan on that, you'd really be better off buying the kit first. I wanted to do exactly what you originally planned on. I bought the kit anyway, just because I've built some Tamiya stuff (a TXT most recently) and I KNEW that I'd forget or miss something. Trust me, you'll be glad that you did save up the $$$ for it, or maybe ask for one as a Christmas or birthday present??
If there is any light at the end of the tunnel for you, it is this: The TLT housings are relatively simple. Maching them would be much less involved than maching TXT housings. The TLT housings have fewer critical dimensions inside them. Remember that everything is in metric, so you'll need to use millimeter endmills and measuring equimpent.

Have you guys tried going to Tamiya's website (www.Tamiyausa.com)? Looking around/research first? You can look up the info there. There's "Parts list", "Product Manual", "Exploded Veiw", "Data Sheet", "Hop-Up Options" for each vehicle.
The easiest thing to do is look at the exploded view or manual to find out what parts you are going to need for the axles. And you could even check out the parts list to see about how much everything would cost (just a rough estimate).

if you made custom TLT axles, a nice touch would be adjustable knuckle carriers(splined maybe?) so you could adjust your pinion angle.
