Default Da hummer

Well over the course of last season I saw my son kyle progress and get better and better. Well his skillz progressed but his rig was hgolding him back. It was too tall and was a tad short. I could tell he would get frustrated but he was always a good sport and just kept going--never acting very frustrated but I could tell.

I kept asking him would he like me to redo his rig---he kept saying no he liked it. Well we finally sat down and talked it over and I told him--I could make it better and used my rig as a good example.

Well thanks to torry over on WARCRC he gave kyle a new chassis that he had recieved. I was hoping to get the new rig ready for the first comp of the season but time didn't allow--but it will be ready for the second.

Well here sits his rig--ready to be molested....

So I pulled the chassis out of the box and looked it over. I decided to toss the skid plate that came with it because I did not like the configuration--plus I prefer to run a little narrower chassis.

So I built a new skid plate and mounted the chassis plates..

A big issue with the old chassis was how tall it was (da bull). Here you can see how much shorter the new chassis is compared to the old one--that alone will help a ton.

So I like to start with the rear first. One thing I am also doing it running a bigger rod end like I did with my rig. the current ones were breaking on hard lands--and I have yet to break the ones on my rig.

Here is what we used to run

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...3&I=LXJJ81&P=K

And here is what we are now running

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...3&I=LXHGB7&P=K

The smaller ones are for 6/32 links and the larger ones need 8/32

For the links I am using thick alum tube thats just the right diameter to tap out for 8/32" and I just use allthread to join the rod end.. Pretty simple really

So I got the rear links done and the front lower with the uppers only mocked up for correct length. One nice thing about doing alot of this--having bits and pieces laying around for mock up

But Here is a side view.

Rear link configuration. I copied my setup since I know it works very well.

One from the top

Wow! I REALLY like that chassis

I kinda like the rear link mount too... it's more commonly seen flipped around, but I assume you did it as you did in an attempt to get even length links right? smart thinkin!

The chasis is double j's wicked bull and so far its not too bad and hope to have some updated pics tonight.

I tried to acomplish 2 things with the rear--try to get the links close to equil length but also get the links behind the centerline of the axle. I did a bunch of testing with anti squat in the rear and I had found this setup was perfect. The thing climbs extreemly well and no torqu twist.

Try it if you get a chance I think you will be really happy with the outcome...

Ok I am putting along. I got the shock mounts modified for this setup and cross brace/body mounts. Its going to be tight for the electronics from what I can tell--but that will get figured out. But so far its turning out WAY better than his old setup so kyle should be happy..

The ESC is the goat with 18.5 motor. trans is an AX10 and DNA dig.

It was a tight fit but I got the assemble mounted in. I still have to clearance the chassis for the pinion gear. But the fitment was exactly where I wanted it..

Oh--my bad. I got side tracked and didn't get pics up.
Ok I got all the electronics stuffed into the rig and it was tight..

I ended up fining a nice spot for the reciever. Its tucted under the rear crossbace. I had to lengthen the steering servo wiring by an inch but it turned out to be a nice place for it

I ended up needing to redo the front crossbrace. I found I needed a little more room for the ESC and found it helped with the body post's also so it worked out nicely. I made a tray for the ESC to sit down against and the notch in the crossbrace helps keep it in place. I also ended up ziptieing the ESC down due to how the body fits and the wire for the battery.

I drilled holes in the body for the body pins and now the body sits a TON lower--man the tires dig deep into it--its going to get lopped up pretty good now,lol

So saturday morning we took it out to our rock course to try it out--and kyle was already amazed at how much better it worked. I still need to rework the front spring rates. But after about 5 minutes he broke a pin in one of his front CVD's. Hell I haven't been able to do that yet. Now granted his axles are my old ones and I was pretty hard on those, lol.

So I tossed a stock inner/outer on that one side so he could use it on sunday at our GTG. Well he was very happy with it --but dad went and fried his damn ESC....

Default Hummer

That is a nice build, but that Hummer body has to go. That body has done is time. Lay him to rest.
