Default ORCRC Project FJ40 Trail Rig... (pics)

With the current trend in ORCRC to create scale trail rigs, I just had to design a cool body. I was initially going to put it on a large truck, similar to Rockraiders Twin-Force axled Rubicon with the winch, but I just couldnt resist making it REALLY scale!

The Chassis is the same as my old Red Chevy TLT, except I added rear steering and a 4 channel receiver.

Paint is Flat Olive Drab and Flat Black, painted on the outside of the body. (sticks fine)

Deep water exhaust (need to finish the bottom),

The roof Rack, with storage box. Inside is a tow cable. Note the rear spot lights and functional retractable antenna.

Note the Clodbuster Bumper with its cool fairlead. The Winch pulls through it- looks very cool! The winch can easily lift the truck off the ground. (See "ORCRC Graz winch test" post)

The Snorkel and Siren light bar are from a Bruder Unimog toy.

It's maiden wheeling adventure will hopefully be this Sunday with the other ORCRC guys. (Besides tooling around the apartment)
I'll try to get video of it winching and other muddy fun!

Ryan

Thats awesome!!! I can't wait to finish my tlt crawler. I want to get a body somewhat like yours. I love the body on your tlt! Thats so nice and scale looking.

Everyone seems to be getting winches. It adds to the scale effect on these tlts. I think I should make a little box for my electronics somewhat like you did. Ideas are coming in!

Well, nice tlt!

Thanks guys,

Yup, that's the Proline FJ40. I thought about using a clod hard body that I have here, but I wanted the weight-savings of the Lexan.

Killer!

(Sorry, spending too much time in awe to actually think of something to say. )

*edit*

Ya know, if you paint the inside of the body with some Indy Silver it'll look like sheetmetal is showing when the paint on the outside gets scratched.

Incredible , RB 8O I am blown away by the detail.

I am so very jealous now I really want to get started on a scale project, but how to come up with something unique is gonna be tough. You got all the good stuff on your FJ.

you guys have too much time and money.

If all those extras are metal, did u have to weld them? And how did u attach everyting to the body? How many of there acessories are functional?

Thanks folks,

First off, doing this to the body did not cost a lot. You'd be suprised at what you can build accessories out of with things from around the house. The deep fording exhaust, for example, is a piece of cardboard tube from a coat hanger and a melted pen tip, with the base covered by a tamiya ceramic resistor cover. Lots of the things I already had from other toys- such as the Snorkle and the Jerry can.

I attach them a couple different ways. If there's a way to slit the body and insert the item, like the roof rack, that's what I do. Other parts are just straight CA glued to the body. A few items are screwed on. Most of the items are plastic, so that makes it easy to Glue them...

As for functional, all 4 spot lights work, the headlights, tail lights, siren, back up lights work, the winch works, the branch guards 'work', the cargo rack works, and the storage box works. Unfortunately the Jerry can isnt real, or I'd keep a shot of malibu rum in it or something. ;)
