oil and spring weights
 

Yes I did search beforehand, and I looked in the newbies guide thread. I'm doing the TLT to crawler for noobs, and I need an idea of what spring and oil weights to get in the ballpark with a maxx shock. Thanks guys.

I run Losi red buggy springs in the rear of my TLT, and Losi white buggy springs in the front. The whites are longer, so threaded bodied shocks are nice. I run 20wt oil in all 4 shocks.

I'm running stock maxx shock bodies and springs, and 20wt oil, but w/ 3 hole pistons...

Edit: Thats one of the better noob questions I've seen in a while...

Orange Losi Fluid. Not sure of the wieght or if they still sell it. The bottle I have is about 10+ years old.

I have no complaints with Losi Fluids in any of my past hi-speed trucks.

I have tmaxx shocks on both my current working crawlers (4runner isnt done yet) and I run 20 wt, with losi whites and yellow springs (yellows are a lil bit stiffer so i put them in front where the battery is to control the sag a lil bit), I also drill aditional holes in the pistons and enlarge the 2 or 3 current ones, typically i have 4 holes in them to increase flow.

I am guessing that the maxx springs that are available are too stiff for the tlt, so ppl use the losi springs, a bit more stiff to make up for the length?

I am hearing 20wt and losi buggy springs to be used with maxx shocks for the tlt.

Sounds odd to me, thats why I am asking.

What about something like this, what springs if any can I use with said shock?
Or this, again same question, anyone have any idea what springs would fit?
Is there any reason to use these shocks over maxx shocks, they are about the same length.

I run the RC4wd piggyback shock on my clod. They are pretty stiff. But I have them laid down pretty good. I am guessing close to a 45 degree angle. They seem to work pretty good this way. I am not sure what they came with for oil but it's pretty heavy. They could stand to be softened up a bit with some lighter oil.

I don't think there is a "perfect setup" with crawlers. These are not store bought and are not all the same. Weight, CG, shock angle, etc, etc all enter in to the mix. There is a certain amount of trial and error. I think you see a lot of Maxx shocks because they are cheap and easy to find. Basically the Integy piggyback that RC4wd is selling is a Maxx hopup shock. It's just more shiney.

Get yourself any 4" shock and start tuning. Your truck, the terain your running on, and your driving style will determin what spring you need.

As long as I have easily available spring options, then I am happy. Given the choice I would go with the pig shocks, assuming the spring options.

I will most likely purchase said shocks. I welcome more input on the topic, I am not set in stone.

Wow, thanks alot guys. Well the TLT finally showed up along with the stuff from Tower yesterday:mrgreen: . I assembled the axles, and attached them to the frame tonight just to check everything out. Lathe motors are backordered until mid Dec, d%mn!! :twisted: Thanks to this site, and some of the members like Bender and Burban and others its going smoothly. The maxx shocks are definately to stiff with the stock spring, oil weight once the rig is complete I'll start tuning.

The msr4's are a good shock. Have a set on a t-maxx. I like the plain old stock maxx shocks, cheap, they work, I have several sets with different wt oil/piston setup. RCRavin offers a progressive spring that starts out softer than the red maxx springs.

Anyone know the weight of the oil that comes with a TLT?
